I see your point - perhaps mess is too loaded and over the top.

But I would argue there's plenty of evidence there are many examples of poor governance.

...

Thats all on the executive because at the end if the day the bucks stops with them.

So whilst beinf a mess of field might be a litte unfair, our governance is well and truly in the same suburb.

Sigmund Freud would be so proud.

If Buckley's comments are a case of divan intervention, you'd have to say sofa so good.

Wish I'd said that . Whether Bucks is a chaise accompli or benched we'll just have to settee down and wait.

A Geelong premiership player, you say?

Welcome back Shannon Byrnes!

There was some debate about which ‘journo’ broke the story of Goody’s sacking first. Apparently Jay Clark posted it on that X thing 12 seconds before Morris. Jay wins.

that the media were more concerned about this than discussing why goodwin was let go said volumes about the state of afl medja

it was only really the guardian that looked at the reasons why; https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2025/aug/05/afl-simon-goodwin-sacking-by-melbourne-demons-was-ruthless-but-the-right-call

Just be aware he left at the end of 2021 and wasn't at Geelong in the recent successful period where Chris Scott learnt to actually win finals.

Quick question, wasn't the coach search committee supposed to be finalised yesterday? Did anyone see it announced somewhere?

Maybe it was.... you on the need to know list ?? 🤷‍♂️

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Sounds like we are keen on Buckley but setting up a panel/committee to save face and make it look like it's a thorough search. Can't say I'm overly impressed "if" that committee consists of Green, a CEO who hasn't even started or has football background and Richardson, who many thought would be first to go. What if Buckley pulls out? Do we trust these guys?

Well Copilot let you down there champ because Norm Smith coached the Dee's to the 1960 flag as one of his six.

Did Norm coach a club that wasn't Mebourne to a flag, Tiger?

For all those saying trust the process and don’t elevate a clearly better option I give you Exhibit A - Mark Neeld. The process can backfire.

I just don’t want an untried coach right now.

Exhibit B - Craig McRae, Chris Scott, Damien Hardwick, Alastair Clarkson

Check their texts. Bet they both got the heads up at the same time

Who else is sick of waiting for Buckley to be announced?

Yes I am!

Why and how did he get the bullet from the pies. I cannot remember. And how long ago ?

I will keep it together then… for now

Can't we all just get along?

We have a wonderful opportunity for a full Demonland reset.

The Goody is NOT the right guy crew must be thrilled.

The Goody IS the right guy crew (of which I'm a card carrying member) have moved on - the king is dead, long live the king!

Let's all rally around our interim President, acting CEO and yet to appointed head coach (*cough bucks cough*).

Tbh whilst I harbour a curiosity for the make-up of the "Coaching Select Panel" or whatever they might like to be called. It doesn't matter ( much to me ) I've no influence over them and wouldn't know anytime soon what I should wield over them even would I could..

Only hope they spend more than 5 mins on this and keep an open mind.

I want not just a Coach, I want coaches and a better Football dept.

How that's arranged or arrived at; not fussed really.

Just get it done and do it well... whoever is so choosing whom.

Not. One. Bit.

I don't trust they will be able to get Buckley over the line who seems keen.

I certainly don't trust them to pick anyone that is untried.

At this rate no one else will apply. Then Bucks will probably pull out. Will have a search committee with no candidates.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
