Max on the Front Bar

Max is MFC royalty and arguably the greatest club ambassador we've ever had. For anyone to pot him about his latest appearance on TV is frankly laughable. He reminds me on a bloke a lot of you won't know called Ally McCoist who even Celtic supporters grudgingly have a soft spot for.

Just looked at the footage now. Hearing young George sing the Carlton team song made me spew all over my cornflakes.

That [censored] is never funny maxy. Parenting fail 101.

Get ready to double-spew all over your cornflakes coz little LMac (Leo McDonald) also sings the Carlton theme song. Just like George Gawn he sings all 18 theme songs.

Tmac said that oftentimes he’ll come downstairs of a morning and Leo will be belting out Cheer Cheer the Red and the White (for example) at the top of his lungs. He’s learned how to set up the home entertainment system so as to play and sing along to all of them.

Come on, BDA. Your kids were once toddlers. You know that they love a catchy tune, especially a short one since they have the attention span of, well, a toddler. And those theme songs are rousing by design, of course they’re gonna appeal to little kids.

I hope you weren’t serious with “Parenting Fail” coz George (or Jorge as Max calls him 😁) is a very well-raised little boy.

I’m just curious about what your profession has to do with it. Is there a greater expectation for school teachers? There must be because DD pointed out that you’re a school teacher 🤷‍♀️ I wonder what professions have some slack cut for them. Bus drivers? Pizza deliverers? I hope it applies to proofreaders lest I ever get publicly guilted out. Off with her head!

I'm not fussed, it's just another attempt to put me on a lower moral platform than himself. I've actually used Buffy for analysis of character representation in my Year 11 class, so my students understand my cultural references, they think they're funny. And frankly it's my students that matter more to me anyway.

how relevant is buffy to modern kids?

it was SO IMPORTANT to my generation (x, natch) but having had my megafan wife try to watch it with our now 18 year old daughter several years ago it felt VERY dated - so too does "gilmore girls" to me, yet that has maintained its level of importance in our household

"buffy" has probably not been helped by joss whedon's cultural impact going from positive to extrezzo negative in the last decade or so

Yes because the first thing that everyone thinks of when reading that ridiculous comment is 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'

Do you think folks on here reading that would referenceimmediatelyto BTVS? No.. grow up Katrina.

Surely You mean "AnE".

I don't think playing up the MFC member stereotype and calling your own supporters '[censored]' is a particularly smart move. It's kind of biting the hand that feeds. A lot of posters getting stuck into Bluey, but I see where he is coming from. It feels insulting from your Captain. He did something similar on an MFC social media post recently when he referred to those that sit on Level 2 of the MCC as being 'suits' who drink wine and cheese.

I understand it's part of him trying to be funny, but it does feel off to me. It shows the disconnection between players and members that seems to exist strongly at the MFC. Just my 2 cents.

the best acronym ever is TLA

its a three letter acronym for Three Letter Acronym.

It's just an estimate. I'm sure at the end of some season he'll realise it's time. End of 27 or 28 is realistic. But like other old-timers he might go longer if his body and motivation are still strong.

Of course, GD. My point was that that particular number was so readily used by him, as opposed to, say, the more obviously rounded - and desirable - '300'. This, supported by him saying 'plus 50 games at Casey' ('rationalising' himself past a '300'), hinted at him recognising (expecting?) an end short of the opportunity to reach 300 in 2028.

Who was Fremantles recruiter? He rated Fyfe and Gawn in that draft. That aged well.

Max needs a couple of big games towards the end of the season to secure another AA, maybe he should be concentrating on that instead of going on silly TV shows.

PS. Only joking 🤣

Not surprised he named Rick, though

No not surprised at all Ghosty. He had always been my choice for next skip, but I’m now having some real doubts about his body holding up. Also he’s form / injury’s are making him look like a 34 year old out there… he’s only 30 by start of next season.

26’ is a huge year for Rick. If he plays every game next year then you’d say he’s gotten his body / form right. & that would also make him the obvious candidate imo to be next skip.

Lever needs to be put on ice for the rest of the season, his preparation has been severely impacted with ankle surgery preseason & ongoing issues though out the year.

Get his body right, huge off season & reassess where Jake is at for 2026

All this talk about trading him is very premature, hopefully can be the next skipper

For the life of me I can't comprehend how anyone can find the blues song catchy. Must be the most boring song in all sports.

Must be a toddler thing, Jorge Gawn our future ruckman at 7' 1" 😎

The Carlton theme song’s tempo might have something to do with it. Maybe it’s the first one toddlers latch onto because they can keep up with the lyrics 🤷‍♀️

I just caught up on the interview. Interesting that he named Dean Bailey as a coach he loved & obviously goody as well.

Gee he didn't really start off in a professional fit state did he?

But how he's turned that around.

Okay Boomer. BTW (at the risk of using an acronym), anyone who's Gen X knows the reference.

At the risk of going way off topic on this thread, sure, I'll answer the question. A key part of teaching representation in VCE Media is the use of codes and conventions from media productions from a variety of different periods of production so students can analyse social values from a range of different periods of time. A key part of that is researching what are the social values of the time, as while social issues remain constant, social values evolve. Media would be a very boring subject if we were to only teach productions made recently.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
