And just so you know where we stand with Kane Cornes, if that was even on your mind… he has sympathy for Xerri and would be disappointed for him if he missed weeks for the incident that KNOCKED Soaz out. Innocuous he says. And apparently Xerri had no time to move his arm out of the way, which neglects the fact that he put it there when Soaz approached.

And anyway, Kane, our sympathies are with TOM SPARROW , I couldn’t give half a fig about Xerri or how many weeks he misses.

Spaz’s mum was on the other side of the ground and wasn’t sure what had happened. One of our DA members is good friends with her and was on the phone trying to explain, such a hard thing to hear because you just knew she’d be frantic and sure enough she was very distraught. I can’t imagine how it must feel to see your child in such a state.

My son was playing hockey for his school and was hit in the head by a hockey ball. This parent (me) flew down the hockey ground, coat flapping in the wind, nothing was going to stop me from being with him at that moment. He was lying still on the ground. I would do the same if he was playing on the MCG only slightly slower getting to him. I can imagine what Tommy's mother was feeling at the time worse because she couldn't be with him.

Looking at the Sparrow incident it was clear Xerri was administering a cheap shot and not going for the ball. Sparrow was holding the ball below his waist when he got hit.

I spoke in a previous post of when I had a serious head injury - I was 8 at the time. According to my mum, the sight of me unconscious in a hospital bed was the one and only time my dad cried in the 25 years she knew him.

35,844 was a good crowd considering Norf are probably still celebrating 100 years of losing.

I also noticed that at the ground today.

The big takeaway for me was when they had Sparrow on the cart ready to go off and our guys all got around him. Xerri then ran over to do the same and our guys all blocked and pushed him away - as a group, as a team. I thought that was telling.

Hope Sparrow will be ok, like other posters mentioned, it brought up some trauma for everyone.

My love for the sport was on the wane before that but that night and subsequent week after nuked anything I had left for taking the AFL seriously.

I hardly watch any games other than ours now. I used to watch most Thurs and Fri might games now barely any. I was part of a weekly footy podcast that recapped the round's action but now the thought of watching more than 2 or 3 games a weekend seems like a headache.

The passion for the game at the highest level isn't there now.

A loss would have obviously been disastrous but a win leads to what we’ve seen already - “it was only North”, “nothing to be excited about” etc. Of course, all week we had people saying we’d lose, the $4.20 on North was stupid, we’d struggle to win again all year, so there must be a fair number of people who, whether they admit it or not, must have been pleasantly surprised today.

Feels like Lindsay and Windsor are limping to the line. I want them playing each week if possible but if they can’t impact due to fitness, there’s no point.

Langford though - no such concerns. What a gem.

I found it super interesting that the only players to get centre bounces today were the rucks, Pickett, Trac, Clarry and Viney. It feels like after the disaster of the GC first quarter we’ve given up on trying much, if anything, new in there.

We just have to persevere with JVR and Jeffo now. They have to keep playing together and learning to work together. Chopping and changing gets us nowhere.

And on Xerri I reckon it’s a suspension for sure, but the standard 3 weeks off the table and not more. It was careless but those elevating it to a Gaff/Hall act are way off IMO.

For starters, they play completely different roles. If you're talking either/or, then it's TMac for May, perhaps Turner. The closest we have to Lever (intercept defender) would be Howes.

Think it was more that they were expecting to win but wouldn't have been surprised with a loss. I don't think a fair number of people are surprised we won.

Credit to Goody and the coaches. I thought at half time we were going to be overwhelmed with North's use of the corridor and drive off half back from McKercher and Daniel. However, they really put the clamps on them and we shut down their flow.

Really impressed with Fritsch's game higher up the ground, Trac and Oliver's clearance work was the best I've seen in months and Langford is a star.

Can’t believe people are still defending Xerri on radio this morning. I think they all need to watch the vision again. Ball was low and he wasn’t even looking at the ball when he took that wild swing.

Not saying he wanted to knock Sparrow out, but when you lash out like that you need to be held accountable for your actions, it’s pretty simple really.

Max looked like he didn’t even want to shake hands with Xerri, it was the briefest of handshakes you’ll ever see after the game.
