No game within 40pts so far and it ainโ€™t getting any better with Cats and Tigers coming up

So much MFCSS in here, and every other thread of course. Tiring.

Hard to avoid it or argue against it in any other thread, but it shouldnโ€™t figure in this thread. Itโ€™s insufferable having to read the depressing negative posts about the MFC when watching/talking about NON-MFC games.

Both Stengle and Bailey Smith out late. Must be expecting the illicit testers to show up!

Might tune in to the final few minutes to see the bummers lose.

They're really not being spoken about anymore. For a big club they're just bubbling away.

I know we aren't great but at least we've had some success. This club also has a fan base who aren't patient & want success

Letโ€™s hope they have at least a century in the wilderness and by then are no longer a big club. They will still somehow be arrogant I bet.

Watching the last bit of the Bummers v GC, the Bummers have some good young talent and lots of injuries. What they don't have is a game changing midfielder or any team cohesion. What I hope they do have is another 2 decades in the footy wilderness.

And as for GC, I love watching them and am genuinely envious. I loathed Hardwick as a the thug player he was, and it overflowed into his coaching, but he is an outstanding coach. In his 2nd year he has them humming along, tough, fast, skillful and fully united and aligned.

I know everyone hates Hardwick, but he would be the perfect Coach for the MFC

His press conferences are great, if he is angry he tells it straight, unlike Goodwinโ€™s weekly Corporate drivel

Chalk and Chheese

Tour de France from 9pm tonight.

Starting in France for a change... Lille and back to Lille

The first week or so is through the battlefields of WW1 and WW11 including such places as Amiens, Dunkirk and Caen in Normandy

No he didn't. Our flag came on the back of 7 years of club-wide hard work and building.

And a bit of devil may care , bloody hell we're not losing this attitude , initially from 3 or 4 in the 3rd which became infectious. We won it...and won it well in the end which happens often ( but not always ) at the big dance..... but it very nearly didn't. We've never replicated that level since.

The Pies are easily the best side in the AFL.

We lost to them by a point.

We can't be that far away from being a decent side again.

Right now yes but Lions are building momentum and GWS on their day have shown they can beat anyone (Lions, Cats @ Pies already. Dogs are an outsider Smokey for mine.

Hmm... there seems to be two types of games so far this round.

Type 1

Collingwood over Carlton, 8 goal margin at 3/4 time and the entire final quarter is junk time.

GWS over West Coast, 9 goal margin at 3/4 time and the entire final quarter is junk time.

Type 2

Dogs over North, had been tight until halfway through the third, 4 goal margin at 3/4 time, Dogs kick away with 5 goals to 1 in the last.

GC over Essendon, tight game at 3/4 time, 6 goals to none in the final quarter.

Hmm, or maybe there is just one type and the only real difference is 'how far into the game does the better team decide to drop the hammer?'.

cats going to win this by over 100 points

I wonder what it's like to follow a footy team that.

  1. Never seems to have to rebuild

  2. Has a stadium up the road you can just dawdle up to for almost of your home games.

  3. Know that your team is almost always going to play finals

  4. And when the do play finals, you've just got to travel and hour or two to watch them at the G most times

  5. Be that spoilt that you both and moan about having to travel to the G for the finals

One can only dream

Geelong appear to be accelerating. There's a smoky 186 watch on this one.

Obviously today's Geelong is not as overall potent as they were around 15 years ago, but they have a particular love of easy kills these days. If they are allowed to run around witches hats, the damage could be extreme.

I watched part of the pies game last night. The problem is not the coach. Carlton like us are delusional about the quality of their list. They simply don't enough good players.

Geez tigers have fallen not just off the cliff but Mt Everest! 3 flags aside the fall is dramatic, they are exposed & I fear will this be us if we start getting retirements & trade requests, whilst I hate the cats , their list mgt to only miss finals twice in 18 years! Feel for Yze hope they donโ€™t start sacking coaches again

Been a lot of junk time football this year. I canโ€™t be bothered watching most games to the end including some of ours. Even in most of the really tight games, sides leading now appear to bottle up the last few minutes with negative play quite easily. So far a very boring season for exciting games.

Reading all these comments does anyone actually think this competition can sustain a 19th and 20th team? If Tassie is to get a team a Melbourne based team must fold. Say what you want about the two most recent expansion clubs but theyโ€™re here to stay. Two teams in WA & SA works, two teams in QLD & NSW doesnโ€™t really work but it was done with growth in mind. Iโ€™m all for one in Tassie but one must go. For me itโ€™s North, yes sone people will be upset but Iโ€™d rather that than the total demise of the competition. For the remaining seven rounds how many times does anyone thing a team currently placed in the bottom 9 will beat a team in the top 9. Iโ€™m fully aware that Tigers had a dream run and are currently back down the bottom and Sydney played played off in last yearsGF and this is how the system is meant to work. But this time it feels different. Whilst I donโ€™t think Sydney and Melbourne are as bad as were currently placed teams like North and bound to be down for a while.

Tigers were tipped to go through the Season winless by most, so they have actually done pretty well, but I doubt they will win another game this season

The biggest problem we have now is that the Top Sides are getting the Best Talent, they Top Up whenever they feel like it.

And yes i agree a 19th & 20th Team will be a disaster at this point. Games will flood the TV, but how many people will watch a full game.

It just gets boring. I am still angry North were not sent to the Gold Coast in 2011, this current problem was always going to happen

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
