Gawn - flogged a genuinely good player today.

Langford - another impressive game

Bowey - safe and creative

Pickett - exciting as always

Rivers - improved as the game went on

Petracca - wasteful but did win it well

Too much left to too few today.

6. Langford - Did his Rising Star chances no harm

5. Gawn - Did his AA chances no harm

4. Pickett - Only player who looked consistently dangerous

3. Bowey - Continued his consistent season

2. Windsor - Starting to find his feet in '25 over the last couple of weeks

1. Petracca - Looked ok but disposal continues to frustrate

4.8 from set shots says it all, we kicked away our opportunities and didn’t make the most of our contested game. Umps are always going to favour the “Hollywood Hawks”. Good crowd 50.000.

  1. Gawn - a bit less dominant than the last few weeks, but still our best imo. Precision ruck work, marking around the ground, amazing endurance and a ❤️💙 heart as big as the MCG.

  1. Langford - great skills, toughness, footy smarts and maturity way beyond his years were all on display. Has future star written all over him.

  1. Petracca - did the usual ‘Tracc’ things that we all love, but I thought he was a bit ‘rushed’ at times today, which took a ‘smidge’ away from his overall contribution.

  1. Bowey - back to his consistent best, after a quieter game last week. Read the play beautifully and precision disposal was a highlight.

  1. Lindsay - another youngster with all the attributes of a future star. Many of them were on display today ……. in particular his ability to get out of a tight spot and deliver to a teammate in a better position.

  1. Pickett - lit up the ‘G’ on quite a few occasions, but went quiet on others. None-the-less, he was a regular ‘headache’ for the Hawks, whether with the ball in hand or running down an opponent.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
