    Adams should play the 3rd tall (ala Petty in 21), whilst Disco, Petty, JVR and AJ battle it out for 2 spots in the forward line

    That’s about the same level of quality as Hawthorn’s best win, which was vs GWS.

    FWIW I think we lose on Saturday, but if we bring our best pressure and contest work I’m confident we can stay in this game to the end.

    I'd like to see that.. I.e play well.

    Love your optimism but I can’t see that happening. I think next year will be his last but I won’t be surprised if he finishes up the end of this year.

    So I'd keep the forward line the same as howwe finished the game. We are far more potent with the small setup. JvR, Fritsch, Melks together doesn't offer the required pressure and none of them play as a lead up forward.

    Hawks rely on a lot of run, so I'd replace Petty with a midfielder or flanker; perhaps Woewodin who can be both.

    Can Adams ruck?

    Like the idea of Fritsch as sub.

    Hawks will be tough.

    JVR back in for Petty.

    Disco looked good in the backline and forward line. It was easier forward after McGovern went off. Not sure where he will start against the Hawks.

    I think we'll play JVR and Disco fwd

    And only play two talls in defence given Hawks small line up

    So with Melk cleared I think JVR comes back for Petty, Sharp out for Oliver if he's ready to return.

    Part of me would like Disco to start in defence, despite his strong 2nd half up forward. I like him as a swing man that can be moved to whichever end he is needed most.

    Cover their half back line who run and carry (so our half forwards must run hard both ways for 4 quarters) .

    Turner plays on Sicily to keep him accountable.

    Agree with inclusion of AJ for Fritsch.

    Disagree in dropping Kolt.

    He's our future, not Sharp. Kolt won't improve playing at Casey. Confidence is a wonderful thing. Also he's more versatile than Sharp.

    If JvR is to return he plays purely as a forward.

    In the history of the VFL/AFL how many players his size have succeeded as a ruckman and sole key forward?

    Kolt was decent enough. It's a shame he didn't finish off his work, but I certainly wouldn't be dropping him

    some iffy ball work at times but plenty to build on, 4th most contested possessions, 2nd most tackles inside F50.
    If he sharpens up the disposals he'll be fine.

    1000 percent. I know someone else has said it but after the Trac speech thing I’ve got a funny feeling someone in the club is giving out false information and sending these journos in a circle. Or more likely McClure is talking out of his [censored] as per usual.

    If we want to value a win over development this week, I'd be dropping Kolt or demoting him to sub as he was a liability at times on the weekend. Our skills and ability to handle the big moments need to be on point this week as a good team like Hawthorn will punish mistakes far more than West Coast did.

    I'm glad Melksham didn't get suspended. I'd be giving him a role on Battle this week as he seem to be taking a lot of intercept marks.

      Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

      Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
