Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset.

Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road.

Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides as the Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot.

On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss.

On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive.

The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide.

The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form.

Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

Our main competitors for a slim chance at the final 8 are presently Essendon, Carlton and Sydney. Losses by each would be handy assuming we win this week and next. It would put us firmly in the mix

I give nth a shot tonight.

Xerri should dominate the ruck & run goldy ragged, there forward line is better & I hope they win.

Hopefully Geelong can knock off the pies & wreck crisps night

  • peptides

  • flagmantle

  • footscray?

  • crom?

  • filth?

  • us?

  • gw$?

  • dingley

  • bears?

best for us would be relatively similar, possibly with the exception of north getting up tonight, aints tomorrow night

This weekend is Magic Round for the NRL. Same concept as Gather Round with all NRL games being played in Brisbane at Lang Park.

Strange thing is that Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders have a bye. I wonder if this was deliberately planned and how it works with the advantage of home and away, ground revenues etc

?? They're scheduled to meet at 6.25 Sunday evening.

My bad

Read the NRL site wrongly (They had the Bye column next to the game. Seems the Sea Eagles have the bye)

North surely have to come out firing soon.

They are sooking about Cornes who admittedly is a [censored], but what’s the point?

you just come off looking petty

Close game. North by 1pt

Ugh I hate Kane Cornes so much. He’s a pigheaded bully who has no issue with picking on junior players. Critiquing is one thing but condescendingly laughing while making up the stupid Sheezy skit is another thing entirely. He’s a nasty bastard and I’m glad North has banned him.

Now watch what he implies or even says if North win tonight (please footy gods let North beat the most revolting team in the league). That conceited POS will take credit for firing them up. 🤮

Ok that Finbar Maley looks like he rode a penny-farthing to the ground 😂

Finnbar Maley, what a beautiful Irish name.

Love seeing a debutante kick a goal.

Especially when it’s against Essendon 😁

What happened to North since they played us? They are incredibly poor.

No wonder Trac cracked it.

Google Finbar Furey and Mary Black singing “walking with the one I love”.

Such a beautiful song.

Enjoy.

Can’t believe we lost to both these teams.

(But then I can totally believe we actually lost to both these teams)

It is hard to believe just how bad we were for rounds 2-5. Not saying that’s totally in the past, but it feels like it. We were horrendous.

If I may offer some helpful advice, I have a method of dealing with Kane Cornes.

The secret is to never read, watch or listen to anything he has to say.

Could just be me, but Simpkin does f all for a captain and midfielder. His season stats look misleading

I don't watch too many non-Melb games. These two teams are absolute garbage

Terrible umpiring and a low quality boring scrap.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
