5 Goals to 26 in Final Quarters this year is what needs to be talked about in a press conference…

Players tanking to get Goodwin out

12 April 2025. (censored).

No wins, no CEO, no President, no home base.

Might not have a coach much longer either if this keeps up...

Are we bottom of the ladder yet?

A few games now where the result might have looked respectable if not for some junk time giveaway goals and late game fades after being at least vaguely in touch for periods.

But, see, there's the thing. They don't look like respectable results because they weren't.

I still don't believe in mid-season sackings but there's clearly a deep malaise at the club.

We're five good players short, but the hardest thing to face is that those five players are on our list and even on the field, they just aren't being good players at the moment.

And whatever 'system' we imagine we're using is just broken. I'm not sure the 2007 Geelong list could make it work.

I think there is a valid argument to be made that Goody has lost the players.

Not only do we look completely confused for most of the games, our pressure ratings are appalling.

There's no way he survives to 2026 and there should be huge question marks on Radford, Jones, Williams and Chaplin (and Richardson) too.

I think we're in for a big clean out.

The rumours doing the rounds is that we are seeking out Bartel to take over from Richo, hope it’s true.

At least I could switch guilt free to the athletics on 7plus to see four of the best track races you’d ever see (100m x 2, 1500m x 2) instead of the putrid garbage being served up at the Adelaide Oval.

(we won a flag just a little over 3 years ago…)

I wouldn’t be confident vs eagles, they can at least kick a score

I have been thinking that we may win our first game as soon as Simon is gone. 🤔

Lamb should be gone even before Goodwin.

we had 15 premiership players running around tonight

Sure. Which only goes to show how little it takes to really fall off the pace.

Oh for an in-form Ben Brown as a forward focus, and the duo of doom in Lever and May (who was clearly playing injured tonight?) down back, and a Gus Brayshaw holding everyone and everything together. Yet alone a 2021 Clayton Oliver, or a Jack Viney playing in a game style that suits him. Then there's Jackson, who not only held the fort when Max was off but effectively gave us extra midfielder.

Them's big losses, and we're paying the price.

We tried that last year. Bartel chose Caulfield Grammar instead...

Great review! The writing has been on the wall, culture issues, a coach whose game has been flawed & failed to adapt! Our poor list management on not improving the list! Trying to turn defenders into fwds, the Grundy disaster, Who’s responsible for the unraveling of this list & the club back in the toilet with no CEO & fill in President!

10pt margin and they go into a chip chip keepings off game.

We let them. We guard grass. We learned nothing from last week's game against the Cats. No pressure and they kick 6 of the the last 7 goals

Anyone on this site could have written the script. We're hopeless with Goodwin in charge. The players aren't playing for him or our leaders

This club is weak and mentally shot

May has been playing injured for over 2 years. He's lost all closing speed.

Lever is physical cooked as well

Behind at the last change so lets put one behind the ball?

Brad Scott is smart enough to play uncontested time wasting footy. Still don't go one on one? They literally had 10 minutes of kick to kick in the last quarter.

I'm pretty sure (a) the list won the flag in 21 and (b) Goodwin cannot coach on game day.

Not a great time to start over. The board has to be decisive or we will be irrelevant for another 57 years.

Sack Goodwin now!

PAH!!!

We haven’t been this bad for many years.

I have serious concerns about so much of what is going on.

Have no answers, and running out of hope.

The biggest problem with Goodwin has always been that he thinks he is the smartest guy in the room.

And he has surrounded himself with yes men who have failed to call him out on his more ridiculous decisions around tactics, selections and game plans.

The playing group have finally gotten sick of listening to his verbal diarrhoea and are making this clear with their half hearted, bone headed performances.

Well done to all involved in getting the club to this dire position just three years after winning a premiership.

Oh I’m not at all.

It’s over there. And I think it’s likely the game we will fall to 18th (if not before).

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
