Think itโ€™s fairโ€ฆ was a crude tackle. Lucky the guy wasnโ€™t knocked out. Love his aggression though.ย

Disappointed but understandable.

Will Turner be good to go? Or do we considering bringing in a more recognised ruck option like Campbell?

Iโ€™d say Turner comes in and JVR returns to the back up ruck option.

Iโ€™d love to have Tom Campbell taking back up ruck duties but it feels like a wasted selection as Iโ€™m not sure what you do with him for the remaining 70% of the game.

Not sure if AJ is a viable second ruck option going forward. He was defeated by Brown, and thereโ€™s going to be more capable back up options than Brown that heโ€™ll encounter.

ย

Well, there goes AJ's Brownlow chances.ย  He was on offer with the bookies at very enticing odds, too.

Turner only missed with a "crook in the guts" injury, so you'd think he'd be right to go this week otherwise I'll be spewing and so will he (still).

Is this a new record? First game reported and suspended? I liked his effort - that was a bit rough though.ย

Someone will know for sure but .... my damaged memory recollects that one Peter "Crackers" Keenan was suspended for striking in his first game.

Comments or correction are most welcome.

Disappointing - and in no way comparable to Lynch's one match for a dangerous shoulder to the head.

Will that mean Campbell gets a go?ย

A rare case where the action rather than the outcome counted.

If the outcome was worse the penalty would have been greater.

Steve O'Dwyer suspended after first game in 1987

Tigers will argue Lynch was pushed in to it by Weitering.

Archer verdict will be divisive no matter the outcome. IMHO Cleary went to ground and Archer tried to go over the top of him. Very stiff to get three weeks.

...then again in his return game!

Finally saw the Archer incident. How the hell is that a suspension- let alone 3 weeks. I just don't understandย

If every player in the AFL approached the contest as recklessly as Archer did "on that occasion" you would have multiple concussions each week. No way he should get off.

What??? He was running directly at a ball that was open for contesting. The bulldogs player fell into his legs. You can't say he was reckless at all he didn't brace to bump - the guy literally fell into his leg - big argument for the slide rule going the other way.ย

he made no attempt to collect the ball and was late to the contest. reckless is no longer a grading condition. basically replaced by careless rating, which it was. looked more like he was trying to emulate his heritage - lol

I canโ€™t see how he gets off, everyone saying oh but the bulldogs player went to ground have short memories, same thing happened to Pickett with Moore, picket chose the bump so got suspended didnโ€™t matter that Moore dropped at the last second, this will be no different archer was reckless in the speed that he approaches the contest so whether Cleary goes to ground or not is irrelevant I will be shocked if this gets overturned, but itโ€™s not a Melbourne player so anything is possibleย

Heard this morning that ever since the MRO matrix was introduced my Adrian Anderson the actual amount of Appeals went up, not down.

And your telling me we use this guys for our appeals!

That is the problem right there.

Seems Archer was at least 5 metres away before Dogs player got hands to the ball, then Dogs player pushed in the back by another Roos players making him slide down and forward towards Archer. Archer seems a tad too late to the contest and with too much momentum braces for impact to draw a free as his only option. His knees hit Dogs player's head unfortunately.ย

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
