How do you manage to reply when you can't read?

As an adult I read replies and observe reactions.  I sometimes reply.

The coaching group might need some external help with this because it’s seems they can’t fix it.

I recall in IT there used to a joke that a device which was write-only was useless.

Looking back to the last Gold Coast game our forwards performed rather well, we got some clean ball into the fwd50 Rooey lead to the right and Disco lead straight out with Petty just behind him splitting up their backs, worked well. The coaches work on building expectations and belief, we have the cattle, even a Bison, we are a week out from the start of 2025. Time for us supporters to stop handwringing and looking in the rear view mirror, it’s time to strap yourself in for a hell ov a ride in 2025. Go Dees.❤️💙👍

Roos did a very good job for us but if we can change from 14/15 we can change from now. We were 61 and 72 points per game back there. Now scoring is lower and we were still 78 points per game.

Roos was working with a list that had been decimated by Neeld. He was basically working as a trauma surgeon during those years. It was less about game style and more about staying in games for as long as possible. By the time Goodwin came in the bulk of the list had been overturned and we were ready to actually implement a gameplan to have a crack at finals.

I don't doubt that we can change only how much we're willing to.

I don’t disagree with this.

The question you need to ask is whether a classy winger/half back flanker or a power forward that can partner up with JVR is more important to our list evolution.

I think the answer is we need both 😅

I think this year is the year we need to go hard in trade or FA for an established key forward to partner with JVR

I said it earlier in the thread but unfortunately I don’t think Turner, AJ or Jefferson will be able to hold down that role in the years ahead (although I think all three could become serviceable third talls)

If I was the FD I’d be getting in Oscar Allan’s ear - I know he’s a Perth local but the sense I’ve gotten from Eagles supporters is that he may not be committed long term (purely speculation)

And as a FA we wouldn’t need to spend any draft capital

Thanks for this. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I like the expected score stat. Sometimes the final score doesn’t tell the full story - for example you’ve got some teams winning games due to the opposition’s inaccuracy rather than the winning team’s general dominance.

Another example was GWS winning a bunch of games last year on unsustainable accuracy, only to lose both finals.

Not surprised we lost to North and Port (round 3) on expected score. We all left the North game that night feeling in a sour mood feeling as though we lost. The Port win at Adelaide Oval we couldn’t miss if we tried.

Surprised we lost to Essendon on excepted score. Felt like we were far the better team on the night, and did hold a 7 goal lead before Essendon’s junk time goals.

The Carlton game - Carlton had 6.0 by quarter time in the wet with many of their goals being from difficult areas. Had they of been 3.3 at quarter time, we likely win that game as we got better the night went on.

Lastly, the Dogs loss at Marvel could’ve been an absolute massacre based on X score.

I suspect that we took the foot off the pedal against Essendon (which is not recommended). If we'd only gotten 3 goals up, with the expected scores being closer to the actual ones, our eventual winning margin may still have been the same

The game plan was built around contest defence and multiple fwd 50 entries, it won us finals & a flag convincingly, but have failed to find a power fwds since 21 , instead trying to turn defenders into fwds with both T Mac & petty heading back, JVR need support yet we trade for vfl players, not to mention the Grundy disaster

Umm, T Mac was starring in the forward line as far back as 2017. Remember that winning goal he kicked in the goal square away against West Coast, at the time?

They really need to believe and admit that there is a genuine problem before it can be addressed by anyone.

Annnnnnd the Hawks are into him:

Not sure why we never seem to be linked to these players… let’s hope it’s because Lamb operates in silence

Just like previous assumptions on here i.e. in season loading, goody changing the game plan or holding on tactics for finals etc , this one around trying to attract players in silence is non-sense. I believed all of the above to some extent but year after year were proven incorrect.

I listened to SEN crunch time when Simmo talked about Oscar as a free agent. He said he wants to stay in WA but there appears to be some misalignment in salary and hence indicated that he was potentially gettable.

Question is can we offer Oscar the $$$. All the commentators on SEN seemed to think that Eagles and Hawks will not be able to offer top dollar or match incoming offers. With Brayshaw's retirement and presumably the cap space we made available for Houston, i wonder if we can pursue Oscar as a free agent. It will be the steal of the century.

The other interesting discussion during SEN crunch time was that the work on pulling players out of clubs was a minimum 18-24 month proposition. If we have not been having a conversation with Oscar 12 months ago, then we are unlikely.

If we are not into him, then Lamb and co have to go. We have been a KPF short for almost half a decade, which is plenty of time to do something about it.

all the scuttlebutt midway though last season was that we were the ones deadkeen on seeing if we could prise allen or waterman away from meth coke

the work has been done, but we are not a 'sexxxy' team a la dingley

we have been up to our eyeballs in recent seasons trying to get cerra, lynch, houston, allen, and waterman

Hawthorn surely don’t have the offer in them that we do

No but the proposition will be playing finals. Which we can offer plus potentially some more dollars.

Would really like Matthew Jefferson to get a chance to prove himself this season in the AFL.

Hoping he spends as much spare time as possible in the gym. He still needs to bulk up quite a bit in my opinion. However, I do believe he has the talent to make it. He just needs to get MUCH stronger!

Pump those weights Jeffo! ❤️💙

That’s exactly why Jefferson hasn’t played yet. He is not strong enough, mind and body….

Would it be worth chasing Jamarra Ugle-Hagan from the Bulldogs?

A fresh start at the Demons might do him good?

Absolutely it would.

2023 National Draft

7. Caleb Windsor

10. Nate Caddy

Love Windsor and he will be very good.
We missed one here though, Caddy & JVR would have been 👌👌👌

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

To be fair, we had just drafted Jeffo the year before. I think the club has faith that he'll make it at the top level.

The behavioral issues being talked about with him are a major concern. He'd be better off getting away from Vic and playing for Brisbane as a Daniher replacement.

Getting Petty out of the fwd line will be a positive IMO. He rarely got his hands on the ball, and when he did (clunk his marks) he kicked poorly (9.15).

I've no doubt if AJ is given the same game time fwd as Petty he'll return a goal a game at least.

What is your problem with Petty? Your regular posts potting him suggest you have an issue.

The guy can seriously play the game, has mongrel and hits contests hard. Many on here thought our flag chances were blown in 2023 when he went down in Tassie late that year. With a full summer behind him watch out.

I believe he will be more than useful up forward if need be, most of us know we need guys that can clunk a contested mark forward of centre to break the game open. He can be that guy.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
