Without Max the gap will be even smaller. Taking Jackson would mean in a few years we will be paying our ruckman more as a percentage of cap than we do to Gawn. (He's criminally underpaid). Sure Jackson also doubles as a forward but id say the clubs that have enjoyed the most success over the past decade have underpaid their rucks for the output they get not overpaid (including us). Thats the way to do it.

He is a fine player, but Jackson is too expensive for what he procduces week in week out imo. However, it wouldnt be a list killing move like tdk at 1.6 would be.

Yep, that's reasonable argument (Jackso is too expensive for what he produces week in week out).

It points to the fact that whilst all clubs have a designated number one ruck few have a highly paid second ruck - Freo being one obviously (by the by i argued at the time Freo were crazy to go so hard for Jackson given their investment in Darcy).

However, i'd argue that getting Jackson in is worth the riskin of putting too many eggs in the ruck basket.

One, Maxy and Jacko clearly had a synergy as a ruck duo that makes them a very effective duo imo.

Two, we obviously need a better back up ruck than we currently have.

Three, it might actually extend Maxy's career as we would be much less reliant on him playing huge game time week in week out.

And four, it would represent the perfect succession plan in terms of replacing Maxy when he retires.

Maxy has said he I'd fitter now than he has ever been.

Goody should get some props for ensuring he gets way fewer big hits this season, which will help extend him.

Given those two factors, and maxy's incredible resilience, I could see him playing until he is 36, which would take him until the end of the 2027 season (he turns 36 Dec 2027).

Now I’ll say upfront that stats isn’t the be all and end all of measuring a players impact on a game - in particular SuperCoach points. But it does provide some insight relevant to the this recent discussion in the thread around importance of rucks.

SuperCoach player ratings have 4 of the top 11 players as rucks based on total points (same players in top 15 when considered S averages). Gawn and XErri are actually 1 & 2 based on total points.

Not saying that settles the argument, but SC ratings are based on Champion Data and they know a thing or two about player impact.

the point is often missed that not only is gawn the best ruckmen in the game, but he's also one of the better midfielders

he runs around the ground collecting marks and possessions seemingly at will

Jesse Hogan didn't do much at Freo . Jackson for Kozzie ( he is going to put his hand out for more $$$$$) is a win win for both clubs. WE get a ruckman who is capable of kicking goals , we don't have anyone who comes close. Lots of people on D.L didn't want Hogan back at the club prior to joining GWS .... guess what ? You are spewing now we didn't get him back.

Now i can understand why we took 57 yrs to win a flag .......... negativity endless.

How is losing Kozzie a win?

It doesn’t matter if we get Harley Reid as part of a deal, any way you look at it, Kozzie would be a massive loss. He’s near on untradeable.

I have no idea how Luke Jackson gets in the door if Kozzie isn't traded back to them unless Essendon kindly want to donate the first round draft pick that's tied to us.

It would have to be our 2026 and 2027 first rounders (assuming 2 years in advance is coming in this year) or one first rounder and a proven commodity in Rivers or McVee. That's a lot of capital to give up for a known flight risk who appears unsettled from the outside looking in.

We certainly can trade our '26 and '27 first round picks at the end of the year.

The original deal was effectively pick 13, future first, future 2nd and pick swaps.

In a way, we get Jackson and Windsor for 3 first rounders. I'd take that deal any year.

My question would be what, other than wishful thinking, makes us think Jackson's professions of loyalty to Fremantle are disingenuous but Kozzie's to us are legit?

I’d take that deal too

While trading future picks is always a gamble, I feel we really need to start supplementing the middle age bracket of our list instead of drafting more young players or trading in older players

We’ve got young guns and old guns, now we really need some (middle?) guns in that 23-27 age range that we’re really lacking in - Dogga fits the bill

I'd have no problem trading out two future first round picks in a Tasmania compromised draft year.

The only big names Fremantle attract are sooks that want to go home. Either to end up as square pegs in round holes on the field or big fish in a small pond off it.
