That entire benefit means as long as we aren’t top 4 next year they’ll likely have picked up Kako for stuff all cost wise. It’s an incredible help for a side.

It cost Essendon the Xavier Lindsay pick. He did not come cheap. They could have manoeuvred to get enough points without giving up their first rounder in what is touted as the best draft since drafting began.

Kako plays one good pre season game and he plays supposedly now the best player in the league. The w@nkfest for Collingwood and Essendon after one pre season match is laughable. 

Let’s see Essendon do this under systematic presses and match intensity pressure. 🤡

Kako will be a star. He has great instincts on where the ball will drop and is footy smart. 
Looks a nice young kid too. Doesn’t get too carried away, seems respectful. Not sure he suits Essendon. A Blue guernsey would suit him more than black 

Richmond were bad last year and will be worse this year.

Grimes, Baker, Martin, Bolton, Graham and Rioli all left with only 18 year old draft picks coming in to replace them.

Hopper and Taranto are the only players left on their list in their prime. They are good players but neither are good enough to carry a team.

Outside of that, their most experienced players are Vlaustin, Prestia (injury prone), Lynch (injury prone) and McIntosh. 

When it get deep into winter and the kids start tiring I could see a bunch of 100+ point losses.

I feel bad for Yze.

i don't wish success for carlton; they'd love him too

he's the sort of modern small forward every team would like to have, although we're yet to see whether he's got the defensive intensity required to match the likes of pickett etc.

he certainly knows where the goals are - weightman-alike in that he's clearly good in the air and at ground level

Yep they are in for a world of hurt. Everyone was giving them an ‘A’ for their off season, conveniently ignoring the fact they’ve lost the majority of their best players. It’s a dangerous game cutting a list that deep, considering there’s no guarantee your draft picks make it!

Looking at the performance of Collingwood's players, they have immense talent on every line. If they stay healthy, they will be very hard to beat. Adding Houston and Membrey as well... even their youth play like 100+ gamers.

Calm the farm…..they played a side that’s best player is a 32 year old full forward with a bung foot. Richmond are bunnies, they’ll be lucky to win a game and will get belted week in week out. 

Tigers are in for a horrendous season.  Multiple 100pt plus losses. Maybe 1-2 wins

Hopefully their kids show something otherwise Yze might not last.  Even though the board would know where they are

They'll get that pick back from us next year, as long as we aren't top 6 it will likely be of similar value. The strengths of this draft were a very solid top 7 and the deep collection of first round worthy players that generally runs out somewhere between 12 and 18 and last year stretched all the way to 30.

I think it's abundantly clear Kako would've gone before that Essendon pick, the only option they had would've been to trade it higher up the other and I assume every team said no to moving down.

They'll be a good side, they've effectively added Houston and Perryman to a team that won a flag. We'll see if Membrey can do anything in the real stuff.

That said, what youth? The only inexperienced young player who started in their side last night was 22 year old Reef McInness. 

Hopefully they don't win it all and the cliff comes quickly.

I think the club backed themselves to get back into the top 8, which would probably put us ahead on the trading of the first round pick for 2025.

They also may have rated the talent in 2024 much higher, especially for mids.

The other consideration, is if we know Kalani White is nominating us and we expect him to be top 15, it means we essentially get a first round pick in 2025 anyway. Couple that with Sinnema, who we also have access to and it could be smart trading by us.

Their youth is essential Daicos and that’s it… they’ve got raps on Ed Allan as well, but realistically they are miles behind other clubs on the youth front. They’ve gone all in on winning a flag now, so if they don’t it will be big failure.

As long as we aren't terrible it's probably a perfectly fine or even good deal for us. The academy system is so flawed though when you have a guy right towards the pointy end like Kako was you can load up and benefit multiple times from the trade out, the discount and then a guy falling.

Say we finish 8th, that can be a nice win for us, if the draft isn't overly compromised and Essendon end up with say pick 15 and take a good player it can be a heist for Essendon after you add in what they paid for Kako and other really solid bonus picks they picked up.

I think we have used the academy trading situation better than most sides since it was introduced.

The only downside is we were shafted with Mac Andrew! Thankfully the pick we would've used for him got us JVR....so can't complain.

Would love for the Hawks to miss the 8 this year and for several more.

The level of arrogance that it will just happen again for them is nauseating 🤮
