several people i've spoken to today about rodski rate him enormously highly

I have had a little (very little) bit to do with him on the sponsorship front several years ago. Nice guy but didn’t strike me as ‘Australia’s oldest sporting club who needs a home base and a culture overhaul’ level of guy.

Important to remember the Storm are privately owned (Tripp and friends) and the governance is different. Important also to remember that they have Bellamy who is the driver of culture in that joint and has done a phenomenal job almost solely doing that for a very long time.

I won't be Swann:

"... Healy believes the AFL have a duty to pick up the phone and at least pose the question to Swann who has committed to the Lions for the upcoming season... "  to join AFL HQ.

One name not mentioned anywhere is Josh Blanksby who left MRC recently.

He was mentioned when Richmond were hunting for a CEO.

I don’t think he is right (no footy background and he seemingly was a big part of the botch-job of the Caulfield redevelopment) but I am surprised he hasn’t been floated due to his intimate knowledge of Caulfield/the Trust and our clear ambitions there.

Thats probably a very good reason not to get him.

That's the way DC!

Justin Rodski - would be a fantastic appointment. As much as he is ceo at storm - he's an AFL boy at heart

Worked his way up the corporate ranks at Essendon before going to Storm

Know him quite well - through junior footy. He does the boundary ump role every game for his sons team - he's  grounded and always available for a chat

This would be a fantastic get if we could pull this off.

Fox was formerly CEO at Hawthorn prior to the MCC wasn't he?

Steven Smith pulling the strings to get Fox in as CEO would be absolutely brilliant.

Yes Smith is already working behind the scenes before the handover from Green mid season.

the ~80 thousand dollar desk.

I've heard the names Stuart Fox & Sam Graham mentioned as leading contenders.

Interesting.   iirc Sam Graham was Gil's preferred replacement for Peter Jackson.

His last two AFL positions:

afl-congratulates-sam-graham  COO, understudy to Greg Swann at Brisbane Lions

Graham has been part of the AFL for more than 18 years, with leadership positions across Strategy and Club Services, Chief Executive of AFL NSW / ACT, AFL General Manager Game Development, and most recently on the AFL senior leadership team as General Manager Tasmanian expansion.

An excellent background.  Helps that he knows his way around and has contacts at AFL HQ!

Either Fox or Graham would be excellent for us.

Just get Jason Taylor onto it.

He'll get us the best available pick.

The MCC is about the cushiest gig in the world. Grand final locked in for 50 years. Waiting list for decades. State government providing support for mega concerts in the offseason.

And if you’re happy to jack fees, jack prices, tolerate a decline in behaviour and standards across the actual club you’re rolling.

No way you’d leave that to take on the MFC unless you don’t have the appetite for the Shane Warne stand rebuild. In which case I’d ask why do you have the appetite for Caulfield and grinding away as a club CEO.

Maybe read the link in my last post to see his club experience.  5 Premierships in the 16 years at Geelong and Hawthorn, 8 as CEO.

I'm pretty sure he knows what he'd be facing.

Yes, a fair assessment!!! 😁

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
