Melbourne Football Club - The CEO

No mention of King being the best presenting coach he’s ever seen in 40 years? 🙄😂

Guerra has been in the role for a week, and in that time we appointed a coach with 0 leaks, and he’s told the negative buffoons in the media to put a sock in it.

10 stars for the first week in the role for mine.

100% agree!

Pretty much all our CEO's of the last 40 years present well & speak well but apart from Jackson most were pretty disappointing.

I wish Mr Guerra all the best but he will be judged on results & outcomes.

Pert and Schwab loved the sound of their own voice.

Jackson leaves behind impossibly big shoes to fill, but I like that already Guerra has cut down on the leaks. That was something Jackson managed to control early on as well.

Schwab and Pert were footy industry people but Guerra has come in from the real world. I get the feeling that he doesn’t stand for any nonsense or boys’ club BS.

Yep and like Jackson has real world experience of leading businesses. Yes Jackson had lots of footy experience, but he also had experience outside of football.

I was presently surprised. I had only known him from 5 second sound bites on the news when he's be complaining about work from home or penalty rates. He handled the interview very well

That is an impressive interview. Caro pressed the Nathan Buckley button 3 times and he answered her directly, openly, but leaving no doubt that the Board and Coaching panel are united and aligned and we "got our man".

Loved the fact that he said King presented with "presence and with joy". He came with his own view on our best 25 players, with a view that our gameplan needs to modernize, and is both keeping some assistant coaches while also bringing in his own people.

As good as this interview was, I am more interested in the decisions he makes re a new training base, sponsorship and membership.

Very impressive leader. Loved how he shot the legs out from under Caro re her (obviously wrong) view of the treatment of Goody. Take that Caro!

Interestingly, in an early episode of OTC Buckley said (paraphrasing) 'the game plan isn't that important'. Shock, Horror on my part. That comment made we wonder what Buckley thought is important for a new coach to implement.

Based on your comment I would say King nailed that part of the mfc's wish list. Buckley didn't!

Was driving around on Saturday taxi service duty (picking up daughter from language school) and accidentally tuned in ... thought he did a pretty good job and liked how he said that Goodwin is one of only 4 MFC Premiership coaches and that whenever he comes back to visit the club the red carpet will always be rolled out for him. Take that Caro! 😁

Richmond were a laughing stock until they appointed Brendan Gale and he turned their fortunes and built a dynasty.

We all know no Peter Jackson no premiership and Jaded would still be Jaded.

The CEO 's role at a footy club can't be underestimated.

Bring on the Guerra Era

Jeez mate Cam Schwab spoke well, so did John Anderson, Steve Harris, Ray Ellis & others & I met several of them.

They have all had media training. It doesn't mean anything & is mostly waffle.

Judge them on what they deliver not on what they tell you.

I think the change of name jinxed us.

The Jaded curse.

I will be honest and I know I will be in the minority here I am not buying the well spoken waffle that Guerra is talking so far.

Very impressive start

Lots to do but can’t be happier than the way he shuts down Caros negativity

Seems like a pro

Which part are you selling as waffle?

Hawthorn & Geelong are great example of well run clubs. Perennial success built on strong cultures and leadership. It is no coincidence they are successful. The Dee’s appointed Jackson and Roos again leadership and culture success followed. It is an indictment on our recent club leadership (if you can call it that) not just Goody that it has been squandered. The collective recent leadership of Blues; Dee’s; Saints; Kangas and Bombers should hang their head in shame. The level of ineptness compared to Hawks; Cats; Pies is obvious. I for one am optimistic for the first time in ages. Smith; Guerra and King offer real hope. You don’t have to be Einstein to realise getting intel and modelling on a successful club like Geelong make sense. In Smith we have a smart articulate Chair; in Guerra we have a non footy club CEO focusing on corporate governance and leadership not normal footy club bs and King holding all the intellectual property of the most successful club in the last 20 years. It a great start not a sure fire thing but miles ahead of where we were,

you stopped at a comma, I'll add the rest

.........at least that's my (our) hope.

I guess the proof will be in the eating...still very early days.

There some key markers that will indicate how well he is going...

Training base

On field performance

Growing the membership base

Club/Membership communication

Building a successful ongoing business model

Words are well and good and he handled himself well on questions that were the obvious.

Lets see the actions before we get too carried away.

Well, can I at least say “Great start Paul, impressed the hell out of me so far - now don’t f it up!”.

Paul just spoke on SEN with Kane and Kingy.

He spoke amazingly, very very impressed with how he approaches every question and doesn't fall into the baiting, which Kane tried a few times.

Strong, and sounds focused on a direction, which can only be good for the club as a whole!

Since he is not from The Footy World © , he probably doesn’t know Kane is baiting him. And with our media team - he would be blissfully unaware and unprepared and earnest.
