Can’t wait to have Campbell and Fullarton as back up ruckmen forcing Verrall onto the bench at Casey.

EXACTLY,Christ on a bike our recruiting is a total shambles what 4 games in 3 seasons???? Park me NOOOOOOOOOO🤮

What about Liam Reidy from the dockers, third in line there big unit 24 years old, Victorian lad, wouldn't cost a lot.

I’d rather a Harry Boyd type or Ivan Maric is on the outer at Port and is similar quality to Campbell and much younger.

Ivan Maric retired several years ago & never played for Port.

Yep my bad, Soldo

I'd rather Pruess over Campbell if they're our only two legitimate options.

I'd rather tape Bowsers feet to Ed Langdons head and wee will have a veeeeery mobile ruckman who runs all day!

Watched Crossley yesterday and he looked out of shape

Boyd looks undersized and would struggle at AFL level

Verrell also undersized.

Soldo’s better than Campbell, and is only leaving Port to get more game time. He isn’t coming here to sit behind Gawn.

No one who can play regular game time as the number 1 ruck is coming here. We are in the market for ruckmen who are prepared to play VFL most of the year but be ready to play full games as the number 1 ruck if required. Darcy Fort is this player for Brisbane and is going to get to play in a GF this week as a result.

Campbell’s not amazing at all and there may be better options ultimately available but he’s the sort of option we’re looking for.

Is there a point of keeping Fullarton on the list?

I'm pretty sure they're trying to make him a back up tall forward who can ruck forward of centre. It won't work but he'll be gone at the end of next year.

Pay him out and take pick 80 to the draft I reckon

Soldo is now third in line at Port. At least he would be second in line if he came to us.

This.

Also, no-one who can play regular game time as the number 1 ruck is coming for anything lower than our ANB pick 25.

I do not mind this at all.

And to all the people whinging that they would rather Harry Boyd instead, just tell me exactly how that happens in a draft where it's a complete lottery.

You are not even guaranteed that he'll be available at any of our selections and yet people are screaming they much prefer that then a free hit at this option

What Tom Campbell brings is another senior mature and experienced body who'll provide some much needed leadership and guidance to our VFL team. He's a fantastic character who's one of the most hard working and dedicated guys going around with a team first attitude. An absolute workhorse.

He's also a ripping fella who's done a lot for the AFL community in general. Talk about bringing in people to help shift the culture and standards, well Tommy will certainly help, especially with our younger players.

Gawny isn't getting any younger, he'll need a decent chop out next year and part of me doesn't see him getting through the year again without injury. This is whether Campbell will be able to come in if need and play his role.

He smashed it in the VFL this year and his numbers were elite so worse case is that he's making Casey a whole heap better.

I like this move a ruckman who can actually ruck for nothing. Unless Fort gets delisted I say go for him he adresses a need.

If we are to go for Brisbane draft pick 17 or 18 and lose picks 25, 38, 45 and 51 we will probably have to recruit another delisted free agent hopfully we choose a midfielder with that pick hopefully Brodie from Fremantle gets the chop.

Do you really believe everything that is reported in the media....probably coz you wouldn't have anything to post about kicking the club....Let’s see if we actually sign him....then you can go all in..I take it this is your first trade period with all the associated scuttlebutt

U [censored]. I was responding to the potentiality of interest.. Hence my response. Its still a HUGE NO from me!

"Campbell reached his 50th AFL game during the 2021 season, where he was lauded by his teammates and coaches for his leadership and guidance while playing tandem in the ruck with Todd Goldstein."

"Considered a strong clubman and mentor to younger players, Campbell won the Saints 2023 Best Clubman Award, with the Saints’ Executive General Manager of Football describing Campbell’s impact on the club as ‘profound."

It seems like we are simply looking for ruck cover if needed, from a senior guy for a year.

It may be that we think Verrall needs another year of development, with an occasional game in the seniors this year, but not be expecting him to carry the ruck work alone at Casey.

We gave up on KFW and are possibly looking at drafting another ruckman to develop, but in the meantime for next year at least, need some experienced cover.

If it’s Campbell he is obviously a short term solution, with the FD giving up on Fullarton as a ruckman.

Edited by Redleg

One of my Saints supporter mates reckons Campbell is a ripping bloke and great clubman etc. etc.  I don't mind that, if he can actually offer proper backup for Max at least.

The good thing about Campbell is while not great he probably knows how to actually play the position.

I'm warming to the idea more and more.

Can we move this thread to the Casey Trade section?

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
