I really hope Kentfield develops. Has some serious mongrel about him

Play against the filth and put him straight to Maynard with specific instructions to cause maximum hurt

None of our guys seem interested in that goal atm

All of heard about Sestan is “he’ll be great when he gets the tank” How long does that take?

i'd argue it took trac 5 pre-seasons, not including the one where he did his knee

whereas viney came in-built with said tank

so...depends on the individual?

someone like tapscott could never build it, as an example

Yes. Fun first half in Brisbane but after that it was clear he’s a mile off

So the other 5 were gifts then, no wonder there is a culture problem at the club.

And spend how many weeks suspended? I hate to tell a lot of MFC supporters who love looking back. But next year is 2025, game has moved on.

Thanks Will Verrall (200cm), Luker Kentfield (194cm), Oliver Seston (188cm), Andy Moniz-Wakefield (182cm) and Kynan Brown (181cm) for showing faith in the Dees and MFC for providing the hope and opportunity for these young men to flourish in. Good luck boys I hope that you all make the grade.

He might not make it, but if the club has seen improvements, which you presume they have, then that’s a good sign.
He surely knows he has to show something in 2025 or it’s the end of the road.

If you can't get superfit in two years you are not an athlete should be ready to go

How many weeks did Maynard get suspended for again 🤔

It is entirely possible to hurt without getting suspended - the first instruction would be don’t shake that peanuts hand or pat him on the backside

We talk a big game but the last couple of seasons I can’t remember a game where we looked to be physically intimidating - in 2021 and early 2022 we had far more mojo imo

Does Sestan have any leg speed? We need more players who can kick and can spread.

We need players who can kick, and we need players who can spread: someone who could do both would be gold.

AMW is quick, is clean, has above average kicking skills, showed plenty in all but one of his games for MFC. What's not to like? This year, out of all the listed players at Casey, he was the standout for mine. He will make it, and he will be in our round 1 side.

I am sure, even though we do have a lot of young players, the instruction "don’t shake that peanuts hand or pat him on the backside" would be regarded as childish by them.

Note the distaste for Hinkley after last night.

Huge news for Casey!

Verrall’s worth more time. Sestan and AMW have talent but I’d have been in no rush to sign them, if they can’t improve their running they won’t make it.

So you’d keep them all out of contract waiting to see if we can find, what, 10 new players in trade week?

It's hard to see Hore get a contract with Sestan getting one. We only have 1 rookie spot left unless they decide to use the full amount of rookies and less fully contracted players which will be 1 more rookie. Brayshaw got replaced by a rookie in Kentfield, so I suppose they will keep it the same unless we decide to go for the least amount of rookies which means we will have no rookie spots left.

I think Yze will take the last rookie spot not including Mentha as a cat B rookie and Hore will be without a home again.

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Salem, McDonald, Rivers

C: Windsor, Pick 5, Langdon

HF: Petracca, Petty, Chandler

F: Fritsch, van Rooyen, Turner

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

IC: Moniz-Wakefield, Sparrow, Tholstrup, McAdam, Melksham

Casey

B: Howes, Adams, Draft pick

HB: Bowey, Draft pick, Woewodin

C: Billings, Laurie, Brown

HF: Spargo, Kentfield, Sestan

F: Yze, Jefferson, Fullerton

FOLL: Draft pick, Draft pick, Draft pick

IC: Mentha, Verrall

SUS: Pickett

I think we will have 6 draft picks but that will be less when we go through free agency and trade period.

KB worth a second year and I guess you do the right thing with Kentfield, but yeah Sesto and AMW have battled to do much in preseason and have been down the back in the running. They’ve both be on the list long enough now that it’s kind of now or never. You can sign rookies any time until March now. I don’t see the need to lock up the rookie list.

i'll go...

mfc 23
B: McVee - May - Lever
HB: Bowey - McDonald - Salem
C: Langdon - Rivers - C Windsor
HF: Petracca - Petty - Tholstrup
F: van Rooyen - Fritsch - Chandler
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Spargo - Sparrow - Turner - pick 5
Sub: Melksham

casey 22
B: Mentha - Adams - Andrew
HB: Moniz-Wakefield - draft pick - Howes
C: Billings - White - K Windsor
HF: Sestan - Kentfield - Brown
F: Fullarton - Jefferson - McAdam
Foll: Verrall - Steele - Laurie
I/c: Yze - Edwards - Gregory - draft pick

suspended: pickett

so that's minimum three draft picks coming onto the list, plus andrew, mentha, and yze

i would have thought hore would be retained, but it would seem that he and hunter are unlikely to be on the list in 2025

Surprised to see Sestan given another year.  Gradual improvement and is smart around goals.  But hard to see where he fits in. Had 3-4 good games but went missing in another 8-9 games.  Injured across 5-6 for the year.  Have to back in the club who sees him as one of those project players !!!

Without being silly about it, we have to give a list spot to someone. We will have massive turnover this year as it is, have to keep some of them!

Not arguing that the season wasn't disappointing, but we had a couple of games Essendon, Carlton etc where I thought we had serious presence, when we went back to a more contested style mids season, we still had failures (obviously) but I did see presence. Lots needs fixing but even the close games we lost, there was heart and presence on display. I think more tune up than rebuild. Speed and Kicking on the shopping list for sure. Some people are blessed with tanks, those who don't, do need a few seasons, as was previously mentioned Tracc took a few, there was an interesting interview where Burgess explained this but couldn't find.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
