Looks like there is still interest. Thought we can only use 1 draft pick tonight

How can we pick up? What’s the play here?

If someone leaves the list a spot opens up.

May maybe.

Does Viney probably having long term injury count?

Yes.

No.

If no one "retires" do we have any spare spots?

Of course if they "retire" it will be a full payout so any "new" player has salary cap implications

My guess is he is a mid season pickup chance, by then we will probably have at least someone out for the remainder of the year

This guy was ragdolling senior defenders left and right.

I have no doubt he caught the eyes of the coaches. The fact that he'll be lining up for Casey this season shows that we still have a slight interest in him.

Solid with a degree of intent

Big brute forwards who can't run just don't have a place in the modern game.

Would Plugger Locket get a game today?

I guess that's what everyone thought, and why he isn't on a list.

I think he just proved those people wrong.

I do have my concerns about his profile fitting the modern game, but sometimes you do need a sledgehammer on your list.

Obviously delivery inside the F50 under King will be interesting, and we've added to the small forward fleet.

But I do see some benefits in bringing him in, at least we can keep an eye on him at Casey.

If we have a spot at mid-season we'll prob be towards the pointy end of that as well

I'm not a fan of Johnson, and think he will be lucky to play a game this year, but it seems to me that we already this type on our list. I don't think we need two of them.

Don’t think they are the same.

AJ has a real go in the ruck and the air but he’s actually a far better athlete and less of a bruiser. Strong endurance and good agility, he’s much more similar to a JVR or Mihocek, just with a country footy look about him and the bald head.

The big questions for AJ are whether he can stay healthy (the intraclub wasn’t a good start) and whether he has the skills/forward craft at the level.

Big Ah-Mu probably compares with Kentfield but with another inch of height to get him even closer to ruck size. He’s probably competing for a list spot with the likes of Luker and Kalani White.

For a young developing list there’s room for all 3 but I’m going to need more than a good quarter and a bit with good service against tiring defenders to be convinced he’s a must add.

One decent quarter lined up on Jed Adams in a low intensity intraclub match at Casey is not proving anyone wrong.

If he’s lucky, he’ll get a spot on an afl list from a mid season draft. Doubtful that eventuates though, and even more doubtful he ever makes it at AFL level. His only attribute is he’s a big lump of a lad. He lacks aerobic ability required for AFL, footy iq, defensive ability, and has average skills. There’s a reason he’s not on an AFL list, even as a rookie. There are better prospects to use list spots on.

If the May gate is serious enough this could present an opportunity for Ah-mu.

I still reckon Viney will be out for the year with his Achilles injury.

But he played one good game!

North, Adelaide, Port, west coast, GWS, Carlton, Swans all have big bodied forwards that don't get around that much. Mihocek isn't all that mobile. Some others like Essendon, Pies, Cats and Saints often use a spare ruckman as a key forward. It's really only Freo, Lions, hawks, Suns and Dogs because they are lucky to have 2 or more mobile big men, who don't often use a big bodied stay at home forward.

Problem is that is we don’t claim him at this time then anyone can take him in the midseason draft. What if he stars for Casey in the first half of the season? We could miss out.

We can't claim him 'at this time' as we don't have a spare spot on our list. And we may never have [in 2026].

Zone defence would certainly have strangled his numbers. But as a Jesse Hogan type, but a better kick, he would have still kicked plenty.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
