Tim Membrey

According to Sam Edmund, Melbourne "have a level of interest" in Membrey. Said we can't rule it out as of yet but we've definitely been in conversations with Membrey.

It might not be a direct swap, but i've seen other suggest a Tomlinson - Membrey swap, this seems to make some sense as to not dilute the Saints free agency compensation, i wonder if they'd go for that.

Don't mind it. Could pair well as a crafty veteran with the younger guys. Much preferred over Peter Wright who i think has a bad attitude. Probably the best of the cheap options.

Tim Membrey don’t mind that, he is a tough competitor and could possibly take some of the pressure off whilst the kids are developing.

Kicked 30.9 from 19 games this year. It's a yes from me, can't think of a negative*

* Except for some lousy tatts

As for Luker Kentfield he may take another year or two developing at Casey, it will be Jefferson’s time during ‘25.😁

Membrey is only 188cm so not really comparable to Wright

*Apologies if I'm being overly pedantic

I wouldn't mind us looking at him. We need more senior big bodies. Once he doesn't mind spending some time at Casey. I'd say he would be competing with Melksham/Fritsch/maybe Turner for a spot

Wright is tall but pretty soft and does not attack the ball well in the air. Membrey more of a traditional lead up foward, so more likely replaces Petty/Turner. Plays tall and has decent hands. Same size as fritsch but Membrey is not a ground level player.

Membrey worth a shot. Tough and that goal kicking accuracy (assuming his career stats align) would be very welcome.

Over 65% accuracy full career.

Pretty robust too, 17+ games per season 2016 - 2024 (except 2023)

As a poster mentioned above, kicked 30 goals from 19 games, including 14 goals in the last 6 games of the seasons.

Not exactly Tony Lockett numbers, but not exactly Harrison Petty numbers either.

This would have been the exact output we would've hope from McAdam in 2024 - 30 from 20.

Worth a look if his body's in order. 30/31 isn't exactly old these days.

Who is he the upgrade on in our forward line. I'm not saying he is a bad player, I like him and he is in accurate enough kick for goal. But where does he fit, as he wouldn't be swapping to another team just to play in the VFL.

If we are interested in Membrey, it suggests we lack confidence in Jefferson, McAdam, or the others to take that next step next year.

Whilst our forward line was not great, and not pretending it is, however when Melk came back later in the year I thought, Turner, JVR, Fritter, and Petty started to work things out between them. We lack a crumbing small option when Kozzy isn't up there. I don't know if we lack for medium forwards.

He could replace Melksham, who has a year left at best. He could also be good depth for injury cover, likewise he could free Turner to play down back as needed.

We are one injury away from having to resort to playing Jefferson or Kentfield as key forwards. Not ideal if we are pushing for a flag.

Hmmm, yeah I thought Melksham is possibly in his last season too. Believe me I am not saying he wouldn't be bad as depth, more that why would he move clubs to play reserves with us as depth, he could do that playing for St Kilda with the 1yr or whatever is on the table?
Basically go to Richmond or Nth if you want an almost guaranteed game in the AFL, and I know MFC forward line has flaws, I just don't think a medium forward is our issue.

I don't see why there would be any confidence in McAdam from what we've seen so far. Jeffo probably to play a handful of games next year so Membrey would likely hold that spot for most of the year IMO.

I agree that Petty really improved late in the year but I'd rather see him down back or playing high forward where his marking can help us link up.

The main benefit to this is that he would no longer be able to kick bags against us.

(In all seriousness, I’m not against it as a cheap option to try to strengthen the forward line, given my view is our capital needs to be spent first and foremost on our midfield/half back line).

For minimal currency, I would put some very serious consideration into it. He’s been a good player for a long time.

He’s at 1.6 goals a game (293 total) versus Fritta at 1.8 goals a game (252 total), he’s also the same height and 10kg heavier.

Some extra pressure on Melk/Turner/Fritta would be welcomed - I don’t see Melk as guaranteed games next year as he was patchy at best

I'd be happy to get him in. We need an experienced tall forward after losing Brown and Schache and has only turned 30 a few months ago so he still has a good 3 years left in him at least. I believe a poster mentioned last year he was trying to come to Melbourne, but it never eventuated.

He will give us structure in the forward line which we haven’t had in a long time and take the heat off JVR.

It’s a yes from me.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
