Excellent point George but, having spent a bit of time in the Sunshine State, I can say that they do things differently up there when it comes to public infrastructure and planning. 😉

Nothing like a paper bag to seal the deal.

You quoted my post which was a response to BDA who claimed that Roffey didn’t deliver and therefore was a failure. BDA claimed that my response was gaslighting and you supported that as understanding some supporters’ frustrations. In the context of what I wrote, you were implicitly supporting that claim.

I quoted Spirit of Demons post not yours.

You have me mixed up with someone who could be bothered arguing. I can’t.

Brisbane.

The Brisbane facility at Springfield is miles out of the city and from the Gabba. It's the Brisbane equivalent of us being at Casey.

No it’s not. It is one of the best facilities in the league. And includes administration which we do not have with the second rate stuff that we have.

And it is proof that’s a functioning Board can achieve in 10 years.

One thing that I’m gobsmacked about is the way some people on here make comments like this while they are completely oblivious to the process involved in the club securing a home base. That process has been extensively  covered in material issued by the club and also in media articles.

Essentially, the move to secure a site within the Caulfield Racetrack is a work in progress that is undergoing examination and consultation and the final decision is outside the hands of the MFC Board.

To suggest that the fact that Kate Roffey has yet to deliver this option or any other within a given timeframe and is therefore somehow a failure is risible and reflects a lot of the warped thinking that’s enveloped our club over the past months.

I find this very sad.

Except that our last strategic plan promised the commencement of construction of our home base in the MCG precinct in 2023.  Not a feasibility study, not a plan - but construction. And have you seen that strategic plan for 2024 - 2027?

Rebuilding existing facilities like Geelong and Richmond is completely different to starting from scratch. Administrations from before PJ & Roffey lost out on Olympic Park to Eddie and Collingwood.

We do have excellent facilities in two locations, one opposite the G, the other at Casey which are far better than the rat infested [censored] we occupied 15 years ago.

But can you name one club that’s been able to secure a new site with facilities in the past decade such the one in the Caulfield proposal?

Hawks

Forgive me for being pedantic, but it gives me the [censored] how almost no one highlights the difference between quality of facilities, and having everything under one roof.

This is specifically in relation to the people who mistakenly mention that we have poor training facilities. By all reports the quality of our facilities are actually excellent, it’s just that the admin, men’s and women’s teams are all at separate locations. That is the problem.

Some may think i’m pointing out the obvious there, but when supporters equate the club having bases in different locations, to somehow having “poor training facilities”, then that is pretty stupid. Particularly when there doesn’t seem to be any evidence for that.

I think Casey as a location is also a big issue for players.

It was a trainwreck the interview she did that day. Starting off by saying that every club goes through off field crisis BS.

We need someone that knows football.

I think we've got this pretty much solved!

He’s a great guy with the clubs best interests at heart, but he’s not President material. He’ll fill the void until Smith steps in.

Her interview wasn’t terrible and it wasn’t the only reason she departed. In reality, 12 years in any organisation is probably too long. She had an amazingly successful stewardship since she took over. GF followed by 2 x top 4 finishes is an outstanding record. I would have expected a little more progress from HQ relocation however  I can’t imagine that the infighting at the Melb racing club is helping our cause. Time will tell if her efforts at Caulfield Racecourse will be successful.
She volunteered more than 12 years at the club. time, effort and tears. we owe her a massive thank you and well wishes.

Sacrificial lamb in the short term probably while we shovel the BS out of the way If I were Brad I wouldn't read too much in to it

Regarding the facilities, I was sure I read somewhere there would be a update or announcement come finals ?

Where can we see that strategic plan?

I'm not aware of Brad Green's attitude to lockdowns, but what relevance does it have as a board member or acting president? I suspect your question is politically motivated. Do you have to be a card carrying unionist?

What relevance does one’s union affiliation or not have on this?

The Board needs to rid itself of those involved in the court cases finished and pending. The club needs a clean slate at the top hopefully led by Steve Smith. They can then dissect the football program and help make the necessary changes over the next few years. We still have a strong list and a solid bunch of youngsters coming through. We need to be playing finals and for that we need the best people.

She joined in 2013. Hmm 2013, a great year for the Dee's wasn't it? Neeld was coach, 2 wins for the season, 32k members, no flag for 49 years. Yeah, much worse.

When she joined the board, the then existing board had in it's previous years put the club in it's worse position it had ever been in. The club was stuffed, the AFL had to appoint an outsider in Barrett to take over, a non Melbourne person.
