Dont bother with the rib-eye, just get as much Kobe wagyu as we can

Kobe Wagyu? Is that one of JTโ€™s smokies? Could be a trifle overdone.ย

I might be laughed off by this suggestion, but due to the midfield talent available, I would offer Gold Coast (or anyone else in the bottom 8 to 10) our First Round pick for 2025.

Especially as Gold Coast don't really need their first round pick to get Leonardo Lombard. They just need draft pick points.

If we could get BOTH picks #5 and #6 in this year's draft it would be massive.

We could take two of either....

ย

Josh Smillie

Sam Lalor

Finn O'Sullivan

Harvey Langford

Murphy Reid

Xavier Lindsay

ย

That would be an awesome coup similar to us getting Christian Petracca and Angus Brayshaw back in the 2014 AFL Draft.

Definitelyย  Smillie for me!

Ashcroft.

5 becomes 6

Ashcroft never in our list, so the numbers of players to choose from remains 5

I think that's where this thread belongs, too.ย  Same with the Harvey Langford thread.

Take whoever has the most footy smarts and best disposal.

Haven't seen a lot of his disposal to judge but I reckon Smillie has close to if not the best footy IQ in this draft. Separation at the contest, reading the ruckman's taps, fluent in the language of the stoppage.ย

I think there is a general consensus on DL that we trust JT to identify young talent, itโ€™s Tim Lamb & Co that are the worry. If the thinking is that the P window is wide open and we need mature top ups, JT may not be getting the early picks.ย

The premiership window closed round 1 this year.

Heโ€™s fantastic at getting first hands at the stoppage but Iโ€™m not convinced by what he does when he gets hands on the pill. When Langford gets hands on something happens. And outside the contest Smillie seems below par.

Smillie reminds me of the bad Oliver games (this year and others) where purely getting the ball without any momentum or power in the legs doesnโ€™t help you.

But he could also be Cripps or Tom Green or the good Oliver who turn that first possessions in to drive.ย

He is medium rare to go. But if he doesn't work out, you can always trade him and throw in a pair of steak knives to seal the deal.

Sam Lalor screams Melbourne midfielder.ย

We should have some great options available at pick 5.

Can we get a 300 game, 3x Norm Smith medalist.ย

Very worried weโ€™re going to burn pick 5 in a Tim Lamb specialย

We HAVE to let Jason Taylor get to work at the top end of the draft this year - even better if we can trade a future first to get another first rounder this yearย

Langford my number one pick, but Lalor not far behindย

just hope they don't pick another small sized midfielder.ย  ย We keep them for 3 years and then send them off - it's a waste.

Pick 5 to start with ย  Does that equate ย with sayย

Houston and pick 13. Just guessingย

or say pick 11 and pick 16

again guessing the numbers but if the draft is as even as suggested then what is smarter ?

trust in JT. ย Given us the goods in earlier years why not now !

Port are on record as demanding 2 first round draft picks for Houston.

Can't see them agreeing to that.

Viney and ANB have been the only successful small mids in the last 10 years.ย  Jordan was the last we let go.ย  Laurie and Spargo are in and out of the side and I'd say White is the best midfielder at Casey ahead of other MFC listed players.ย  Doesn't mean Spargo and Laurie won't become permanent but not so far.

Jordon is 187cmโ€™s. I mean, heโ€™s smaller than Paddy Cripps I guess, but wouldnโ€™t call him a small mid.

With pick 5 we will hypothetically get a 200 game player of elite talent who we can shape the team around, most probably a midfielder to replace Brayshaw.
ย

If we trade for Houston and get 13 back, we get an AA half back flanker for another 70-100 games and a speculative mid teens pick. Iโ€™m not sure having Houston is really going to evolve our team that much that it will move the needle and put us back into contention. If we are looking to trade pick 5 I think weโ€™d be better going for a Key Position player or an elite midfield talent if available as it is more likely to have a greater impact on our team. One of our best finishers going inside 50 at times was Windsor, if we can find a midfielder in the draft with footy smarts and is a good kick that should compliment our existing midfield.ย

Specially if Trac leaves.

I'd rather us go to the draft. if this is a really good draft we dont want to miss out on a gun. Houston is 28 so hes well into the 3rd quarter for his career.ย

Yes we do but what does that entail? For me it would be, given we could have 7 spots to fill, at least 2 young midfielder draftees with leg speed & foot skills & add a mature, big bodied, inside possession accumulator. Then we need a 200 cm forward ruck to run cover for Max. If there is an opportunity, letโ€™s find a big marking forward, but thatโ€™s second tier stuff. In the end the only sure thing is to go to the draft, get some kids who can run.ย

And clean up the back office to ensure a smooth season next yr
