Trade radio just reported McQualter has been appointed. Congratulations.

Good for Mini, don't know if this good for us. We must have someone locked in for the role already.

Despite the long road back to competitive football, watching Harley Reid up close, each week, will be fun

Well, that was a short stay  at The MFC coach making  factory. Obviously a good football mind but , perhaps through the weight of circumstances, we didn’t get to see much of it or much of anything good anyway.

I don’t mind the thought of a clean break and a new face …. just hope we can land some quality.

Wow really must have made a great impression.

So who's our new midfield coach then?

Out of left field, what about Rory Sloane (originally from Vic) as his sister, Shae, is a coach in our AFLW program?

Being an assistant coach at Melbourne seems to be the number one pathway to a senior coaching role now!

Plus, former Demon assistants just won both the premiership and the spoon. We're a trophy-winner factory.

Are there any backline coaches, who played back-pocket in their playing days, available?

Why do we still have Goodwin when a person of Quality Integrity and Dam good Bloke we cant KEEP VERY SAD But great for him

perhaps we could offer a role for the media geniuses that have so much knowledge of the club, Norris, Lloyd, Cornes, etc. These journos are able to tell what is wrong with the dees in forensic detail and would then make us an unbelievable powerhouse for ever.

Good on him.

Not ideal for us unfortunately.

So mid coach and Forward. I know Bruce's name was mentioned elsewhere, be interested if he is on our radar.

bassatt comes in as one, presumably forward coach

midfield coach tbc

Well done to him. That's a fantastic achievement, and once again one of our own has been appointed a senior coach. Speaks volumes about our ability to develop assistant coaches and give them the rounded experience they need to become head coaches.

I'm hoping Chaplin back to forward coach (ala 2017-2018, highest scoring team in the comp in '18) and Bassett to the backline.

Then that leaves midfield and I hope strategy/ball movement, though I suspect our soft cap is at its limits and we won't have more than three major line coaches.

Good ol Tom always ready to run with a negative MFC angle

It opens up a role for someone else, who is looking to step into a senior position, as our midfield coach is generally the '2nd in charge' on gameday and runs the box. The last two men who had this role ended up in a senior coaching position shortly after.

There would be lots of great assistants who would love this same opportunity.

I would like to see Cameron Bruce offered that role, but I am sure there are others.

I'm all for bashing the journalists, but he isn't taking a pot shot at us, With McQualter moving to West Coast, and it's got nothing to do with our club, it's about opportunity..

It will be a fascinating to see where we go to recruit for both vacant positions.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
