Wants out. Something about culture.

Justin Leppitsch has been rumored to be departing the Pies for Essendon. I hope we ask the question if McQualter does leave.

would be great if we could swap mcqualter for Leppitsch

We don’t know if he’s the problem tbh. I think there’s more likely a chance that there are fractures in the group. It certainly explains a lot on field.

If I was Petracca watching our most recent games (especially Freo, GWS and dogs)  I would be so frustrated watching how our midfield has been coached. The way we're setting up at centre bounce and stoppages has been giving us a complete disadvantage. Last week was a little better but still. If this is any indication then who knows how much more there is to it with the midfield group and its dissatisfaction. That in turn would cause all sorts of potential conflict.

I know we shouldn't speculate but it just seems rather obvious to me that in Minnies first year that we've had our poorest output from our midfield. I know he's had awful luck with Gus out, Trac going down and Clarry's lack of fitness, but like I said our structure around stoppages to not deny opposition clear outlets has been quite concerning.

Was understood to be extremely highly rated when we appointed him last year.

Josh Gabelich on SEN just doubled down on this and says he’s still incredibly highly rated within the industry.

So if he’s not the problem, who is?

Lots of guys are highly rated... on the outside,  It just seems he hasn't been able fill the role Yze was doing.  But we need some new ideas and blood, time to replace the other assistants as they have been with us a long time?

Goody very stubborn and strong willed. -   It’s known his assistants aren’t truely empowered to challenge the game style - Yze was one of the few trusted to put real change / challenge

We have no idea of how good or not McQualter has been at our club or how he could be in the future. He’s been working with one arm tied behind his back this year. He’s clearly rated highly in the industry and I doubt very much he’s our problem. I’m happy if he stays. I think we need others to change though. New eyes required.

The players are the problem, specifically one who hasn't had a pre-season, cannot burst either way from stoppage, and is not being covered by Gus.

It's very difficult to assess from the outside.

Has any player come out and said anything positive about him during the year?

Sam Mitchell was absolutely adored by the West Coast players during his time there.  Likewise Choco gets mentioned many times by our players in podcasts and interviews. I haven't heard anyone mention anything about him at all.

Take him please, but he will be coming straight back to us as it's Jarrod Schofield's gig after this Sunday against the blooz.

I'll give you a hint his initials are S.G

He won't get it

I heard ABC's Corbin saying Gossage is very well connected, and his article on Hinkley is still in his mind in regards to all these coaches who don't even want to go thru the process. Eagles are waiting on Ports finish to the season. What exactly is a pass mark? Prelim? Could be a good chance he's at the Eagles if so.

Wouldn't surprise me, these ex-lions players under Leigh Mathews seem to stick to their Pride. That's why I've never held much realistic hope in Leppitsch coming to Dees as an assistant. Head coach is another story of course.

It is believed that six of the eight the club has interest in are interim coach Jarrad Schofield, current Melbourne assistant and Richmond’s 2023 interim coach Andrew McQualter, former Port Adelaide premiership star and current Bulldogs assistant Brendon Lade, Brisbane footy boss Danny Daly who had an extensive assistant’s resume before moving into an executive position, Giants assistant Brett Montgomery and Geelong assistant Steven King.

I am just amazed at the lack of people understanding football, people blaming McQualter for the midfield problems that has been a problem for three years, so he can only coach to the gameplan that was in trouble three years ago, one paced midfield, lack of kicking skills lack of players who are so robotic they lack football awareness no forward line but gee that's his problem, people seem to forget he was there during the tigers reign, how about people look at the root cause before you try and blame one man.

The harsh criticism by Jeff White during one of the games put McQualter in the spotlight, where he pointed out the incorrect positioning of our mids at centre bounces. I assume that would have McQ responsibility.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
