Why do we have to hear about it or consider it?  

I'm not on social media and have never watched one of his cooking videos, but I love him playing football for us.  (Except when he blazes kicks into the sky and misfires from set shots, although that seems to have improved lately).

He is a footballer, paid to play football.

That's all I'm interested in and we're being hoodwinked into thinking he has a right to burn contracts and his club because of some nebulous Brand BS. It's an irrelevance.  

I'm prepared to give him some grace as I've posted before saying I don't think his mental health is great.   

He's confirmed that in an interview about having insomnia and needing counselling. 

That's not the time to make big life decisions.  He needs to bunker down and seek solace and support in the familiar.  Then when he's better he can think about big changes.  None of this augurs well for him unfortunately.  

And Christian whether you're playing for us or the enemy, you can shove your red hot brand up your hole. 

You'd have no money or brand without football and all the Demon fans who apparently mean nothing to you.

The Petracca saga for me is pretty much the tipping point.  I get he's had a traumatic experience, and we're all sympathetic to that, but the whole handling of this I find flabbergasting, and frankly Trac has to shoulder a fair bit of the blame for that.  I'm at the point now where I don't really care if he stays at the club or goes, whether it's been his intention or not, the damage he's caused to the club is pretty much irreversible.  This is evidenced in the whole media discourse over the last couple of weeks, and yes, it's caused damage to his own branding, but the perception now is that his brand is the be all and end all.  Comments floating around along the lines of he wants to play at a bigger club, etc, I'm sorry, but is that an insult to us fans now?  Low blow, Trac, given the fans have been nothing but supportive to you. I don't care anymore if that's based of fact or rumour, he's had opportunity to speak the truth, but he's remained tight-lipped, and it's his silence that has created the media storm.  He's hurt my club.  I can't forgive him for that.  I used to have respect for him, but now, I don't.

Part of me thinks that the club's entire "We're not trading him" spiel has a lot to do with the fact his frustrations about his injury ultimately do sit with the AFL, and that they know that any potential push via the grievance council would likely fall in the club's favour. There is definitely a component of this that falls on the AFL, even from a branding perspective given he is one of the faces of the league and is essentially threatening to unravel an AFL entity in the club. It could well be the league here that is playing a role, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were already involved in a mediator role. There is a very complex trade scenario that would have to play out if he does leave. And given we are already hearing of official trade requests, the fact he is still silent suggests something is bubbling beneath the surface. Whether that's mediation or a genuine attempt to facilitate the trade we probably won't know until trade week.

Winning teams rely on synergy..... all folk going the same way... the sum greater than the parts etc.  Even the slightest disharmonies bring that undone. I'm pretty sure some of our lacklustre efforts this year had more sinister reasons than just 'form'

I can honestly see a world where we could sway them both to come home with longer contracts and bigger salaries. Plus we could probably offer both more midfield minutes.

Brisbane wouldn't have the cap space for starters. And the chances of Trac moving away from Victoria are negative 3. 

Rayner is inconsistent at best. I would want Coleman (pending he passes a medical on the knee), who gives us that ball use and speed off half back that we really need.

In one sense I feel sorry for the lad. His injury will not have been pleasant.  I think worse, his guidance by 'others' is taking him down a rabbit hole of no return.

Club knew of Petracca having issues but never ever expected it to get to the point he is being this petulent.

1. Petracca was told EARLY by his management he can't leave, it can't be done. He still pushed the issue.
2. He's been told by other clubs they don't have the assets, he is still pushing the issue.
3. He's been told by Melbourne they will not trade him under any circumstances, he's still pushing the issue.

He knows it can't be done, and the only option from here is to work through things BUT HE IS STILL instead trying to force a way out the club.

His teammates are pretty sick of it, and I don't blame them.

Melbourne would trade him if the right offer came along, mainly because of how fed up the players are with his antics, but will not approach clubs with offers to make it known they'd be open to trading him. 

Petracca's own management has also told him it's time to be leader and his behaviour is costing the club the ability to approach other players, and he's still acting like a prat

I genuinely believe that many people here are significantly overestimating the potential trade value we could get for Petracca, regardless of whether we consider his recent injuries or not. Even without factoring in those setbacks, it's important to recognize that we're also not accounting for the challenges of attracting contracted players from other clubs who might be interested in joining the Demons.

Petracca hasn’t just put his own future with the Dees in jeopardy; through his grievances, he's cast a shadow over the entire Melbourne Football Club. His actions have made the club appear dysfunctional, adding to an already problematic narrative that the MFC has struggled with for years. Sure the MFC has contributed to that perception but this situation has further highlighted the issues and magnified them significantly.

This entire situation has turned into a public relations disaster for everyone involved. Fairly or unfairly, it has tarnished our image, reinforcing the perception that we are far from being a Destination Club. It’s a mess that has left us looking less appealing to potential recruits, and that’s a serious issue moving forward.

Even a flag didn't make us a Destination Club.

This is all pure speculation but given how hard he is driving for this outcome, despite his almost impossible situation, I imagine the Petracca family are 100% in support of what he is doing. I feel all it would take would be one person he respected or admired to say, "Are you sure you're doing the right thing, Christian?" and he would relent. But any moral argument to honour his contract would be countered by something along the lines of, "They almost killed you, Christian!"

I'm sure the Club has reached out to the family, but if the Petraccas are still too aggrieved, then perhaps someone outside the Club like Garry Lyon could be convinced to play a peacemaker role. (Again, pure speculation - I'm not trying to blame the family. Don't yell at me, admins.)

Surely the nuclear option could only pry him away from the demons.  It couldn't also make sure he lands at Collingwood or Carlton?  

I don't mind this option if it means he goes to the club that welcomes him and is capable of providing market proven compensation to Melbourne.  

That's how mediation works in the real world.
