That would be wonderful after rd24.

The best consolation for our bad run this season is seeing the glorious implosion of the bummers, Carltank and the filth

I guess arrogance doesn’t win AFL matches after all

And get so many people keep bagging goody despite his valiant efforts with a list which, this season, has been decimated.

You do realise we are about 3rd best in terms of games missed by injury right?

Yes we have had some injuries but nowhere near as bad as some will have you believe on here.

We have had a terrible season no matter how you look at it, particularly when Goody himself said we will show the footy world where we are at with our actions on the field.

Sorry to hijack the Non MFC thread but the injury excuse many on here use is not why we are bottom 6.

And this is why the wildcard round is stupid. Essendon would not deserve a chance at finals

Neither would we, but.. you would take it EVERY TIME!

Hawthorn won’t miss finals from here. They’ve played one bad game since Round 7 and they close with the bottom 2.

IMO it’s down to the Dogs, Fremantle and Carlton.

Carlton should win their last 2, but can’t be certain with their injury list and loss of form. If they lose again they’re almost certainly done. But if they win both they’ll likely pass Fremantle who have GWS and Port and on current form won’t win both.

Dogs have been in top form but have Adelaide and GWS, two games they can easily lose. If they lose both they will also be passed by Carlton if they win twice.

Hawthorn playing great football.

Still think that their list is average but they are playing as a team, with full buy-in from the players.  Great coaching and leadership.

Perhaps we should study what Hawks are doing and use some of it.

It proves how tight the industry really is - which you would hope transcends how its own supporters make sense of how the Dees have gone this year.

Hmmm…wait til Hawthorn hit their straps over the next few years - they will be insufferable. 😂

Of our top six players: Brayshaw out for the whole season, Oliver a shell, Trac out for half a season, and now May out.

It's not how many you lose, it's who they are.

I look at it and think the opposite. We really just the worst season to go off kilter. Our ‘22 and ‘23 form would have had us favourites I think. Lions the only real team to beat

And the Lions aren’t even in the top 4.

Dogs, the current flavour of the month, are currently 4 goals down to a bottom 4 side.

I’m with you. The frustration for me is that we’ve put this season together in a year where middling form can get you top 4. We’re not that far off Geelong or Port but 1-4 in games decided by under a kick and two beltings to a Fremantle side who hasn’t really achieved much else for 3 months has ruined us.

Their recruiting of cheap, “not really wanted” players from other clubs has been amazing. Ginnivin, Choll, D’Ambrosio, Meek, Amon. And they have got most of their early draft picks right and still have some veterans, Bruest,Gunston playing their roles perfectly and importantly coaching the young brigade.

MFC has mostly struck out on the cheap, recycled recruiting in the last 3 years. As a cohort they have added little in terms of improving our list, playing a role or providing on field leadership.

Dogs will have to beat the Giants to make finals

Hawks are playing a skinny kid at FF called Calshar Dear who is going along quite nicely & kicking goals.

Meanwhile we have a kid by the name of Matt Jefferson stranded at Casey who given the opportunity might just surprise some people.

How are Cripps and Neale the 2 favourites for the Brownlow. Neither has had a great year

Bont, Serong, Butters all better imo

The only joy left in our season. As bad as we have been this year one extra goal in the GWS or Lions game and we would have been looking at a top four spot.

Our player management has been a joke. Max should never have been playing against WC, it was the absolute clear opportunity to rest him, instead he gets injured. TMac was having the season nobody thought possible, we never managed him and lost form at the moment we needed to win. Windsor, never managed like every other first year player until he’s injured. Viney, up and down throughout the season, never managed, inconsistent and doesn’t give a player like Sparrow the chance to step into a more central role. No player management and that’s been a failure over multiple seasons, none more than this year.

We were a mathematical chance at making finals if we won against Port. All those unlikely results are now coming true: Ess go down to Suns. Blues lost to Hawks. Crows up against Dogs. All of them managed to come off, except us, we lost.

Only joy is watching both blues & pies not make the finals after they called us one hit wonders, covid cup winners..

Saints are playing well. They won't be Geelong next week but would be a decent chance against Carlton in the last round.

A chance we could end up with pick 5.

it’s looking like 13 wins and high percentage won’t be enough so we were no chance even if we won

Given all the other results in this round, how important could Tholstrup's missed goal chance turn out to be?

It's a bit unfair to single out Kolt's shocker.

Both teams missed several gettable chances, among them Demons such as JVR, Nibbler and Billings.

Billings miss was no harder.

But yeah, 80% of AFL players make that shot.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
