Can someone, in a nutshell,explain to me what this so called game plan of his is ? or is it all secret. Looks like there is no plan to my eyes.

    Nobody knows....Including the players.

    Play like Hawthorn is probably as far as the instructions go.

    In a nutshell ....
    To turn the game into an ugly rugby scrum in order to limit the opposition from scoring heavily against us.
    Scoring ourselves is a distant afterthought but it usually involves more rugby scrum till we can get it within' range of a snapshot under pressure from a pocket.
    And when in doubt, kick it on Gawns head and hope we can create a stoppage for a ball up so we can start another scrum.

    Have mentioned him in 'rebuild' but I'd certainly have Corey Enright in the frame for a senior coaching position if it ever came up.

    Ross Lyon reinforced today why a non premiership coach can be regarded as a better coach than a premiership winning coach.

    17 years in the caper and still getting the best out of his list while implementing a game plan that suits the modern day.

    There’s talk that Enright might succeed Lyon in a perfect world for St Kilda.

    I mean, come on now. If Ross Lyon was our coach the exact same topics that we have now on Goodwin would still exist on Lyon.

    Primarily a defensive-minded coach who leads a side who generally can't score. Multiple years of being in the middle, with finals appearances (let alone wins) sporadic. Has led teams to decent/strong H&A seasons but no flags. Yes, today was a good win, but Port look like a bottom 6 side so far this year.

    If Goodwin had that record he wouldn't be getting pats on the back, nor would Demonland regard him as better than any of the premiership coaches going around right now.

    Some good comments on making the move now

    This is going to kill the club for outsiders in terms of attracting talent (already happening ) and kill retention - Kozzie Petracca XL Langford Caleb etc

    It does rather encapsulate our dilemma in a nutshell. Even if we ( club ) wanted to pull the trigger now it probably can't. Not without causing as many problems as it seeks to solve.

    I'd probably accept the club is betwixt a rock and a hard place, somewhat neutered in ability to deliver robust governance whilst effectively in caretaker mode.

    You'd have to be wondering what the likes of Smith thinks about this dog's breakfast looking on from safer vantage point.

    We've still got our two big marquee games to come. You'd have to think the "Apprentice" might have the "Master's" game covered. Then a KB dance . If we can't muster something for these games who really would want us to continue the year in an as you were 'stay calm' manner ?

    All our key players have gone backwards, very little development of the second rung, a game plan that is not working and he is being out coached on game day. Hard to see a way out for him.

    Someone asked... what is our style, what is the gameplan ?

    It's come to my attention that over recent off seasons the club has reached out to an alternative to such ideas as Leading Teams etc. We have embraced the ancient warrior art of " Man Up Mindfullness " as utilised in the practised Martial Art of Bullshido.

    We have adapted its tenets and now play full on Ballshido

    Been saying it since round 1 doc.

    Seems only Simon knows. The players either don't understand it, can't execute it or are not playing for the coach.

    It is likely all 3 of those reasons.

    Very sad situation we find ourselves in, what a disaster it's been since the flag.

    That's the most worrying part of it all, the young core JT was able to select. Must keep them interested in the club. That won't happen under Goodwin.

    It really is just a matter of time now. Whenever the board can work up the courage to sack him. I expect it will probably be around the middle of the year probably a couple of weeks after we've appointed a new CEO.

    Can someone please explain the 12 month pay out clause?

    Is it a matter of if Goodwin's sacked today, we would have to pay him through to 7 April 2026 and then the balance through to 31 October is negotiable between the two parties??

    I believe it's a 12 month max payout. So would be to 7 April.

    The AFL only sets the limit for "AFL-funded" clubs. But every club appears to be AFL funded. The base level is $12.2m this year. No club just gets the base level. We receive $23.8m in 2025. The Hawks the lowest of the Vic clubs is at $18.4m. GWS and Gold Coast get $34m. So I assume the limit applies to all clubs.

    The limit would be written into his contract which the AFL would have signed off on. But one interesting thing is when Goody signed the extension in 2023 the limit was 6 months (it was changed to 12 months later that year). You would assume his contract was initially written that he is paid out to the AFL stipulated max.

    So the sooner we sack him the better off we are next year basically as we'll have less money tied up in the soft cap?

    I would presume there would be a standard AFL irretractable clause in his contract on payout terms. It would be interesting to see whether the 6-month clause would apply in his circumstance. I think it plays a major factor in whether they sack him sooner rather than later. If we didn't want anything to bleed into next year's soft cap, then end of April would give us the 6 month mark until 31st October (presuming this is when contracts are signed to).

    Coincidentally the next 4 games will be telling - it is the easiest part of our fixture for the year.

    Bombers, Dockers, Tigers, Eagles. If he wins 2, i think it buys him until the bye round. Any worse and i reckon 'fork in it'.

    The other interesting thing that occurred to me today was that nobody in the team is publicly coming out and defending Goody. Look at the Blues, Walsh, Crippa and their leaders are taking the fall for their performances. I don't think i have seen or heard the Dees coming out and accepting the blame (i maybe wrong but am on a media blackout)

      Round 11, the second week of The Sir Doug Nicholls Round, kicks off on Thursday night with the Cats hosting the Bulldogs at Kardinia Park. Geelong will be looking to to continue their decade long dominance over the Bulldogs, while the Dogs aim to take another big scalp as they surge up the ladder. On Friday night it's he Dreamtime at the 'G clash between Essendon and Richmond. The Bombers will want to avoid another embarrassing performance against a lowly side whilst the Tigers will be keen to avenge a disappointing loss to the Kangaroos. Saturday footy kicks off as the Blues face the Giants in a pivotal clash for both clubs. Carlton need to turn around their up and down season while GWS will be eager to bounce back and reassert themselves as a September threat. At twilight sees the Hawks taking on the Lions at the G. Hawthorn need to cement themselves in the Top 4 but they’ll need to be at their best to challenge a Brisbane side eager to respond after last week’s crushing loss to the Dees on their home turf. The first of the Saturday night double headers opens with North Melbourne up against the high-flying Magpies. The Roos will need a near-perfect performance to trouble a Collingwood side sitting atop the ladder.

      The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

      The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
