Fantastic! Shows his commitment to the club and in our direction.  Might sound a bit strange after today! For me is the heir apparent key back when May retires. People forget he is only 24. Could be the main man for 10 years. These blokes don't grow on trees. Has had a poor season but in fairness is not a natural forward. Definitely not a ruck. Form down back earlier in his career was first class. Need to get other building blocks in place by stocking up the midfield and obviously a genuine ruck. I've got confidence in Jefferson coming on. Reckon we will finish 10-13 on the table. Means a decent first pick we can use or trade.. Not sure on the academy picks in the draft? Just hope Battle and Baker stay put. Money in the cap means we can be active. Very interesting October lay ahead.

Give the kid an injury free pre-season and let’s see how far he goes in 2025. I’m really glad we’ve secured his services for the next 3 years. His best footy is incredible and I hope he gets back to his late 2023 form next year.

I'm guessing that TMac has called time.

He's had a wonderful 2024 and surprised us all but to go out on your own call is a great thing in this game

Huh? What's this actually based on? Zero evidence to back this up.

There was a media story a couple of months ago that was the opposite. That the Crows had contacted Petty again & not got the response they wanted. Seems he cooled on them.

Caveat being - AFL media so a pinch of salt may need to be taken

Probably Adelaide's season made him think twice

Do we have a first round pick - seem to trade those away most years ?

seperate the result from today. This is good - im quietly happy on this. KPD/F dont grow on trees and Petty will be better for it next year. He like Oliver and actually many others are not fit enough this year.

He wasnt the worst today.

Excellent news. Needs to return to the backline next year and hopefully we'll see Jefferson play some games alongside JvR and Turner.

I welcome the news, if he can get through a pre season and his body holds up I’m sure he can play good football for us.

The 2 years ontop of what he had I would assume takes him to free agency.

According to the List and Contracts thread we have picks in R1, 4 and 5 and Swans 2, Dogs 2 and Saints 3.

My understanding is that we have a first round pick currently standing at 9. This will be affected by FA compensation but I hope not. Can anyone enlighten me on academy picks for Swans, Suns etc?. We have pick 38 in the second round, 42 in the third and a 4th rounder. If we slip below the Suns and Hawks  it will be pick 7 without impediments.

Good strategic signing. We have young talls. Replacement for T Mc when he goes. Means for sure Tomlinson goes at season end.

Gives an opportunity to play him back and try Jeffersen forward next season.

Takes the pressure off both the club and himself with the Crows interest.

He needs a full pre season.

This, a 24 year old premiership CHB.
This is massive although it may not seem like it right now.

We have the dogs 3rd, not second sadly.

If we’d have played him down back the past couple years - we wouldn’t be able to afford Petty. He is the best young key back in the league. We’ve just had to play him up forward. Next year he’ll be down back, and we desperately need his height and class down there. Well done to the club for knocking back Adelaide’s deal. It’s now worth it with Petty signing on.

Suns have Lombard, Brisbane have Ashcroft and Marshall. All in the mix for the first round, Ashcroft potentially top 5.

Don't think Sydney or GWS have anyone significant coming through.

With the new potentially NGA rules essendon will have rights to Kako who some say is top 15.

Play him as a key defender

Not a key forward

He’s a good contested mark.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
