Hope Laurie cracks hard on the defensive end and spends some time at centre bounce. He has never really had a chance to play mid in the firsts, usually stuck in the HF graveyard shift. He is a great tackler and can be clean in traffic.

Can also be a bit of a panic merchant turnover king at times MF.  And that's playing in the middle (when he does) at Casey.

Fingers and toes crossed if he goes into the middle.  Might be better to just leave him rolling through as a HF off the bench for now with minimal time through the middle?

Billings got 18 touches on as sub

And Jordon played 65 games in 3 years

just appalling

no wonder he left

You can't be serious. Jordon played the Grand Final for zero minutes. That is credited with one game and a hollow premiership medallion

Saying he played 65 games is irrelevant. How many games was he sub? And how many minuted did he play when he was sub?

And this from you:

Windsor is a gun. Quick skilled high draft pick. unfair comparison on young Brown. Windsor has been amazing and deserved every game, fantastic that the club backed him from day 1

How would Windsor be travelling if he had been treated like Brown?

He is a jet we all get that but if he been treated like Brown we may still be wondering. If he was languishing at Casey getting 24 tackles and not being picked you'd say "well he's a young player who should be grateful for his minutes"

Lachie Hunter rumoured to come back in next week to play his 200th against his old mob.

We're picking severely out-of-form players on sentimental value now?  Has been horrid most weeks at Casey.

Hope not!

It's exactly what we need more of in our team.

I thought Sparrow was ready to explode this year after his pre season performance against the Blues.

2-3 weeks at Casey might do him some good.

He is named as an emergency so no game at either level this week i assume?

Same with K Brown & Howes.

One half of our starting midfield are panic merchant turnover kings, statistically speaking.  The quicker number 4 gets a run in there the better.

Jordon 65 games 13 impacted by sub, not sure how these facts are irrelevant

regarding Windsor and Brown. let me try to break this down for you. Some young players instantly take to the game - so you play them. Others take time so you play them in the 2’s.

How would Windsor be travelling if he was treated like Brown? who knows? they are different players

Can't help but feel Max's inclusion is well meant but foolhardy desperation.

Hope this doesn't exasperate his injury.

Go Dees ... keep well Max.

Right call on sparrow. He can have no complaints

Sounds like rubbish to me. Since when have we ever picked someone for sentimental reasons?

Agreed but I didn't think it would ever happen.

Yep Fritsch was putrid and is a weak tackler, needs more desperation and needs a spell. BRING IN JEFFO! Time for a bold call Goody

Jeffo may well be very useful - at a time when Fritta is down on form and impact - and Jeffo will only benefit from the experience and senior onfield associations. Many things appear quite possible, and Verral is just a moment away, as well. The same enrichment opportunities apply with Gawn back where his leadership can be consistently applied across a whole game. Given the return of Melk, the budding abilities of JVR and the keen eyes of ANB and Chin, things could really happen but it must be time to bring all of these synergies to the fore.

Melksham on radio this morning revealed that Gawn has a fitness test today.

Also said Sparrow plays a defensive and team role but also needs to play with more freedom without just focusing on his team role, which is why he’s been dropped. Sounds 100% spot on to me.

Just because it is his 200th is NO Guarantee of a spot and nor should it be! He would want to tear it up at Casey First. Not that thats any factor, just look at Pettys elevation on no form!

I'm going early and calling this a Demon win by no less than 33 points.

Max to crush the ruck and Fritta and Milk to have a busy time with four goals each.

Jvr with five.

According to his stats he’s played 197 games DD.

I'm exasperated by the notion that the medical team, Gawn and the FD would knowingly put him in a position to exacerbate the injury, without weighing up the risk.

incredibly accurate which suggests a) luck; b) kicking close to goal or c) kicking from the corridor

Don't know the breakdown of set shots, out-the-back, stoppage etc but they are doing something right.

A bit? He plays hot potato with the ball if there is even a hint of pressure. He consistently coughs it up. He misses regulation shots on goal and is too slight for AFL football. Goodwin again backing the wrong horse. There is no future for Laurie at AFL level

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
