Petty broke Draper, now Darcy and Dogga’s turn.

You must be kidding. Petty mostly fell over & fumbled. He seems totally bereft of confidence & form & has barely contributed this year.

I would like to say I'm confident but I'd be lying.

I've watched Freo of late and they're impressive team on the rise. They're starting to build some really good self belief within the team, not saying we aren't either, but seems that JL seems to have them finally connecting in all three lines of the ground

Freo at home this year have been hard to stop. Yes they lost to West Coast but I think like us they were just completely off their game. Their slingshot off half back and ability to move the ball at speed is what is winning them games this year. See the Sydney game where this was on display.

The Jackson/Darcy combo is another factor. Forget Draper, these two are miles ahead of him. It worries me that we're going to be putting more focus on JVR as a ruckman this week then we would initially like because Petty struggled to provide a solid contest when he was in there.

Can see this one going right down to the wire.

Go Dees.

Yep agree.

We can win this, and I am 100% all in on the optimism and confidence, it’s refreshing and enjoyable.

But IMO Fremantle are a top 4 side and will be eager to bounce back after last week. We are deservedy marked underdogs.

20 pressure acts and 5 tackles. That's in the top 7 players for both stats, top 3 for Melbourne.

Draper had 6 and 1.

I don't disagree that he didn't offer much offensively, but he definitely had a go.

Not many blokes go well post concussion, so am hoping Darcy is ineffectual.  Not much has been made of our WA mafia combining in statement games but would love to see Riv, JVR, Kossie, Kolt and Judd remind the West Australians of what was left on the table...

Absolute proof that you didn't watch the game closely!

Haha agree.. must having been watching a different game.

Took a 21 year old in JVR to turn the tide back our way in terms of being able to half the ruck contests with his physicality.

Can you feel the tension? I can. I can feel it... down in my plums. They're getting a nice bluish hue, gettin' ready to take 'em to the farmer's market.

Was tongue in cheek about Petty breaking Draper.
But he was nowhere near as bad as the Petty haters are saying. He busted a gut last week.

DL right now reminds me of early 2021 when all people looked at was stats. Brayshaw was no good then cause he wasn’t getting 25-30 touches on the wing, but a lot were clueless about his role.
Same goes about Petty and Sparrow now. But I guess when the team is winning we must find something to hate.

Petty had six touches, four clangers and 10 hit outs. He was below ordinary.

I’m mates with their Head of Operations. Trying to think of the perfect text message that will completely derail them. Any suggestions welcome.

Freo are like Essendon. Give them a shove and they will fall  over ( except for Pearce ). Now wether we are ready to shove them or not is another matter.

4 Quarters of Pressure Demons, is what we need today

the job can be done

Good luck today mate.  you beat us by 92 points in Alice last month. Easy win coming,  Rest Serong and Brayshaw

Pretty much my thoughts, they are building well and once they get consistent are the real deal. I like how we’ve progressed but we’re outsiders in this.

Hoping for a win, not confident but looking forward to seeing upside and this mornings conditions in Perth very similar to the morning leading into the Sunday arvo game in 2004.

That day they were the better side for most of the day but we just hung in there. Heavy showers hit and we dominated the final quarter to win with Vardy very prominent in that quarter.

Would love a repeat

Ideas on pubs to watch the game today? or is everyone staying home?

I agree with most of this. Where I'm more hopeful is around our ability to reduce their successful slingshot game. And last week provided the blueprint at stoppage to prevent them getting it to the outside. Bring the same pressure and cleanness at stoppage ourselves and we're a good chance.

Woke up this morning resigned to a loss. I'm hoping we put in a gutsy display and keep our momentum, rather than just capitulating like we did in Alice. I'm pretty confident we'll perform OK but be shown up in the midfield and as a result they'll get too many easy entries into their forward 50.

A win requires a tremendous performance in the ruck to nullify Jackson and Darcy, with AMW, Tholstrup, Pickett, Viney, ANB, and others preventing their midfield spread from getting easy transitions/turnover goals.

Do that and we can possibly scrounge enough points to win, but it's going to depend on that high pressure midfield we've seen over the past month since the Lions 2nd quarter.

Yet we win and we'll most likely be 4th ourselves.

It's a strange season.

It's Sydney and then the rest atm IMO.

A strange season it is! Even Swans lost to the Tigers!

Hope the Demons bring their best, kick straight, Freo have a not so good day, and we might bring home the bacon!

Go Demons!!

I feel JVR is actually more physical than Jackson. Maybe at least in that specific contest we break even?

The biggest FM is Australia is just down the road from me @Ethan Tremblay. Should we win, I recon I can get a good price on them ripened plums. Don't bruise 'em between now and game time.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
