Yeah sadly we just seemed to have pushed out a generational talent and no doubt it will bite us.

Can't help but feel we'll plummet next year and Team Tracc will be off to the filth.

we may as well put Pickett and petracca up now, just get it over and one with

Lol

May as well just pay him the $1m not to rock up to the club instead

Has to be the truth. I really look foward to those memoirs in ten years time.

Hopefully at least he will be able to afford shoes when he turns up to future preseason camps.

People having a crack at the club but the only thing that has created this are Oliver’s actions.. club has supported him continuously & only so much they can put up with ….

Everyone seems under the assumption that it’s only going to be a two club transaction. Geelong knows very well they will need to get at least one other team involved to get the draft capital to make it work. They are an excellent creative recruiting team.

I never mentioned anything about a 2 club transaction. But if you look at what they’ve committed to with Smith, and the picks they have, they’d have to give up something genuinely valuable to anyone to get enough capital to bring in Smith and Oliver.

Also, I’m so over the narrative that other clubs are so wonderfully run. I know stories about Geelong, and its culture, that would make people’s toes curl. They benefit massively from the fact that no journo in Melbourne can be bothered to drive down there to dig dirt on such a short news cycle. It’s not as perfect as people think.

He arrived in Lorne with shoes. He just parted ways with them climbing fences in the wee hours.

Oliver Twist's mentor was Fagin.  Clarry is off to Brisbane for sure!

And Geelong are the Artful Dodger

What are his actions? He looks like he's in the best shape for years.

Clayton is a product of his environment. Viney, Lever and McDonald aside, our senior players were all scallywags as younger men. Clayton learnt how to adult in that setting.

No doubt he's taken things to another level, but don't kid yourself we have/had a list of Trent Cotchin's and Sam Mitchell's

So what happened at the farm? I know farms have sheep and there might be some magic mushrooms growing in the hedge rows. Mysterious things can happen in isolated places. Could a callow type like Oliver be brainwashed to sell his soul to the cat cult?

Is that your opinion that he's gone? Don't the club have to accept the offer that Geelong give?

Yep

Surely we have to get at least a F1, to sell the trade to the Dees supporters

Been there, done that.

If the Board and Pert have decided that its time for Oliver to go they need to get in touch with Richo, Lamb and Goodwin and explain that this is the direction the club is taking and they are instructed to find the best offer for him. Basic chain of command. It's terrible to have the footy dept blindsided by the CEO going over their heads.

Where is your evidence that the footy department was ‘blindsided’…? stop believing media BS

Good clubs manage these sort of players. The stories I used to hear about Buddy were staggering. Even Dusty has had his moments.

.... so Clarry had no part to play in all of this? No one likes this situation, but it aint all on the club here.

and by manage do you mean cover things up and pretend that they aren't happening?

Clayton Oliver
AFL Premiership player: 2021
2 x AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award: 2021, 2022
3 x All-Australian team: 2018, 2021, 2022
4 x Keith 'Bluey' Truscott MedallistL 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022

In return, Geelong will offer up Spiro Malakellis, David Mensch and pick 53

They did give us Nigel Kol. Maybe they'll include his twin brother Michael as part of the trade.

"cruel to clarry"?  puleez, give me a break

this is all on clarry.  the talk of clarry's off field behaviour has been the talk of the town for years and now it seems it really wasn't just so much talk

hard to feel sorry for clarry for all the damage done to the club despite all the help he has been given

It is on the club for failing to manage it.

And if he goes to Geelong and regains form we'll know that we just weren't equipped to handle it. S'all good.

The club is a basketcase. We had two generational mids that we built a team around and got a flag while still in their mid 20s. Within 3 years we've reverted back to the basketcase we've been for 60 years and both those players (on long term contracts) want out. Heads must roll, the nuffies in charge are going to kill the club.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
