Its not a horror week. Read the articles. Houston will only leave if Port get adequate compensation for him, he may still stay. Weeks ago when this broke MFC were vying for a top 8 spot and could have gone as high as 4th if they hadn't lost those close games. Perhaps the club was willing to part with pick 12 or 13 but now we are looking at 6 that is too much.

It all depends on his reasons for leaving and where he expects to play. The only clubs with lots of picks will be Richmond or interstate teams like Freo. If he only wants to come to a club in the premiership window I can tell you there aren't many Victorian clubs in the 8 let alone in contention (maybe Geelong). I hate to say it but Cornes may be right here. Don't waste a top 10 pick on Houston.

I would imagine this is the situation that’s actually played out, the club were happy with 12 or 13 and now that it’s considerably higher, we won’t deal it away

I think he means Houston?

I know, that's what I mean that's he's had great Intel with the Dees when it comes to off field player movement.

Hope it's true.  Don't trade away our future on a twenty-eight year old.

Did this hack apologize for his [censored] take on Clarry now that his injuries have been made public? I bet not.

How about you worry about Port doing something in finals for once Kane

Rightly or wrongly most media are of the view that Clarry will never return to the player we knew, regardless of injury or fitness levels.

Gawd, the media are now the yardstick of reason???

To be fair, the whole world had an idea of the troubles, the lack of pre-season and hand injury Clarry had/has.

To be fair, a player does not lose their talent. History says this man has achieved extremely high standards and that does not go at his age.

Most in the media have NFI what they’re talking about. They literally flip and flop on a weekly basis.
They had Carlton as premiers, they told me Bevo was getting sacked.
They get paid for clicks, not for truths.

I feel like it would be a good move to not ready any football news or DL until round 1 . imagine the surprise at who’s playing!

pretty much my thought too

there's a big difference between our first round pick + future 1st when the current year's component is 6 vs when it's 13

And they try push players to the clubs they support. Most of them still salty we won a flag.

Well if Houston is having doubts about us, other prospects will be too. What a shamozzle.

They manufacture your consent pretty easily don't they?

I read an article yesterday that suggested Port Adelaide was saying it wanted ANB and our first pick in the draft for Houston. It was probably based on conjecture but, at anything near that cost, I would be disappointed if we were interested in dealing with him anyway. Moreover, if he’s on board with the way the media is reporting the situation (and I’m not suggesting he is), then he’s not the person we want either.

Fascinated to understand who leaked the ‘Trac is unhappy’ story.

If it was Trac trying to force a trade it was naive because he was never going to be traded with 5 years left.

If it was Trac trying to force the club’s hand to make change for the better it was also naive because now it makes us look like a basket case and we’re already suffering with the Dan Houston decision.

If it was some coterie type because they’d had a gutful of watching us lose games from their leather armchair in the long room then that decision in its own right may have actually set fire to any remaining hope we can acquire the players that might help us get out of this mess.

If this latest news is true, and the public relations continues to go down the tank, we can kiss goodbye any thoughts of having a big trade week to dramatically improve our list.

Less Houstons and more NQR’s in your McAdams and Fullartons.

I’m throughly disappointed in this news. We could’ve had a genuine, genuine A grader walk into the doors next year.

The only noise I hear is that Houston wants a return to Victoria. And Port have lined up Perryman and Cumming to replace him.

Houston is gone.

The rest is playing media games for value. Which either we are really bad at, or don’t rate.

And regardless, nobody is giving Port a 2024 first rounder for him.

I still find it hard to believe Houston's mind is flip flopping in regards to our fortunes right now when he has bigger fish to fry. The season is nowhere near done.

I feel that Houston not wanting to join our current [censored] show could be a blessing in disguise if the rumored price of our prized first round pick was the price for a 29 year old.

He’s a good player but not that good.

Not too disappointed if true. I genuinely believe our premiership window is closed as others are and have gone past us. Having said that I don’t think we will fall off the cliff either. I think we have a mini reset take our hand to the draft and get some high quality mids to come through with the current crop of youngsters that we have. Obviously need to find a successor to Max. Too big a price to pay for Houston and will ultimately hurt us long term.

I would also hope his manager is speaking with specific people in the club rather than making decisions based on media reports 🤪

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
