I have only watched the last two minutes. The first thing I saw was a Brisbane player jump into Lever's back near the wing - no free kick.

Next, May knocks the ball towards the boundary - allowable under the rules, cos it's not deliberate, see  - Neale Bullen picks it up two feet from the boundary, is surrounded by three Brisbane players, moves towards the boundary - where else could he go, Daniher had him covered?  - and the ball is actually over the line when he falls. Free kick to Bris Bane, naturally...

In the last minute, Viney passes to Rivers who marks and is hit after he marks. The commentator asks the rhetorical question: Was that a high hit? Of course not...

You know the answer. Sports entertainment and the almighty $$$$$ rules, so Swans, Lions, Blues, Bombers, Pies all in the finals.

Most jarring thing is that last week's game had 51 frees and this one just 22. Feels like you're watching a different sport

Professional game with amateur style umpires, afl keep stuffing around with the rules and their interpretation, 4 umpires is too many.

Lucky you only saw the last 2 minutes. We copped it all night.

I fear I've actually been gaslighted to the point of not being sure of the rules any more.

Can someone clarify for me what the rules are about players running into an opponent during a marking contest to keep them out of the contest, when the instigator has no intention to compete for the mark?

Genuinely seeking clarification.

Riv thought he was Nick Daicos, Brissie got away with murder last night, so many blatant frees not paid but tight touchwood free played to one team at least and how come we didn’t see any replays of the Touched balls that we were robbed of???

The variability in 50m especially annoying. 70m sometimes 30m the next.

And any commentator or reporter who objects finds work hard to come by. Richo is the only one to comment and even then it's just a raised eyebrow.

Never!!! Umpiring is not 'work', just for the record - they are not Professional.

Can I just answer this one for Monbon, I worked for 60+ years and rarely made simple or blatant mistakes, as a rule of thumb I knew my responsibilities I understood the rules of engagement and I prided myself in my knowledge of my role and duties that i was paid to perform.

I did just the same as the bolded bits.  Still made plenty of errors.

And when we did make a mistake, we were held accountable. 

More umpires has made the standard much worse. Within the game we have four officials adjudicating the rules differently. I could show 4 marks from last nights game (arguably the simplest rule they need to adjudicate) that were paid, and 4 that weren’t that look identical, and that was for both teams.

I’m over the AFL and the umpiring. They’re deliberately made it obtuse, so they can use it to their advantage. It happens so consistently that it’s clearly by design.

I’m kinda done to be honest. Up until a few rounds into this year I would watch 3-4 games a round but it’s gotten to the point where the umpiring just frustrate the [censored] out of me. It has gotten that bad. There is no consistency within games and it’s a joke. I don’t enjoy watching AFL anymore. I’ll watch Melbourne games and finals but outside of that, I don’t want to waste time just getting frustrated.

If anyone reckons things have always been like this then that’s fine, I would say it has gotten much worse in the last couple of seasons. 
 

And I don’t blame the umpires, it’s the AFL for allowing interpretations to be so loose. 

I dont enjoy the game as much now.

Umpiring is as unpredictable as Joe Bidens toileting and speech .

You install an obedient propaganda arm that appears seperate but is not. You continue to value profit above everything else and then let the riff raff yell and scream as they will while You laugh and pity them from your ivory tower. you are essentially unaccountable for your poor decisions and stewardship of the game. You view the general fan as a peasant who wouldn’t know what’s best for them and slowly degrade a game many people have loved for a long time.

Nibblers was a free every day of the week.

The problem is, it will only get paid once a month, if that, whilst very similar plays will be a throw in.

The game is becoming unwatchable for mine. Umpiring standards are at an all time low and the AFL refuses to acknowledge it. 

The umpires do an excellent job
