Mmmm, the only club with cultural issues. Uh huh. Let's think back to WCE during the mid 00's, or individuals of the Hawthorn, Geelong and even Tigers teams. during the 00's and 10's.

There is a serious, serious issue with linking  nonperforming teams and having that code for 'cultural issues'. But it is the court of public perception and people don't mind drinking that kool aid...

It's low hanging fruit.

I also get that people don't see it my way.

Read Ch7 Interview with brody grundy about his MFC experienece and our culture.

Dropped online today .  Couldn't be more different, in a posiitve way, than the media white noise from those on the outside - as opposed by someone from the inside with no agenda to push, like clicks.

Swans ( incl them having JJ) are now my second team for this season.

I did ready & correct, but to give up on this from both Goodwin was way too early, was the risk vs reward thought through?? It falls at the feet of the goody & the coaches

Coached the most games in the history of the AFL (718). I’d say that gives him some credibility.

He'd certainly have a sense of what culture is.

Of course he wouldn't know the full inside depth of our club but his opinion is based on a number of exposed factors that everyone else has judged us on.

Culture is measured by Wins and Losses, but you cannot deny anything that Malthouse has stated. It’s not nice reading, but we shouldn’t dismiss it either

I was very concerned after Pert made the Comments on Radio about our culture being Rock Solid, you cannot say things like that with so much Media scrutiny from many platforms these days. But he did it…

Can never understand why people get their knickers in a knot when outside people the club comment on Melbourne after all that's what this forum does.

Because they're precious bunch lol.. Our form will attract the criticism it deserves.

Only way to silence them is by winning the games we should be winning.

Yes, Goody hung his hat on that earlier in the season. Kinda like putting it all on the line

And we sit 11th.

Somethings not right, Dazzle.

I welcome an opinion, but I hope the West Australian didn’t pay too much for that article. It literally has no new information, and even not much of a unique opinion. It’s just a retelling of events.

I wish my job was that easy.

Gee ...we don't like it when faced with the truth...    so tempted to cite A Few Good Men.

Take away the author's identity i challenge the naysayers to actually debate the article.  So easy to lazily call names and mock disdain.

For mine he pretty well nails it.  The truth can be and often is ugly. Actually I thought he held back somewhat.

So again...point by point ... engage...

Or just sit there.... and throw barbs simply because the truth annoys.

He's not just a bitter and twisted old fart; he's the grand master of crankiness, with a PhD in grumbling and a black belt in complaining. Oh, and thanks for the Mark Neeld tip you *&^%.

Point by point? Why? We read it all in February, and January, and December.. nothing new there. Easy to write it now and say the warning signs were there, but he tipped us for 5th preseason so where was Nostradamick then?

https://archive.md/xpua8

Fine, he’s kicking us while we’re down, good luck to him but let’s not pretend he’s got any great insight here.

Ok, do you really think that Steven may goes missing during games?

And should the Pres and CEO comment on football matters mid season?

He 100% made that up cos he wanted to give May a backhander

He hasn't nailed anything. All he's done is taken the dots and come up with a story that fits. See below, the one in purple.

Malthouse looks at what Pert said last year about our culture from the perspective of the media. I reckon at the time Pert was more concerned about backing our footy department publicly while assuring supporters, more specifically members, and sponsors.

I rarely watch opposition pressers but used to almost religiously watch Carlton's when Malthouse was coaching them because he would pick fights with Journos pretty much every week.

If you’re going to question my intelligence try not to misspell 2 out of your first 6 words but hey.

The connection, which was quite clear, is that you were accusing others of not addressing Malthouse’s points and instead mocking him, and when someone else made another quite clear point about Malthouse making up stories to fit the facts you chose to mock them rather than address the point. Simples when you think about it.

Pert took a big Gamble talking to Garry, a Past Captain. I know why he did it, but it has backfired, potentially very badly.
Pert was hoping to sort it all out internally, but the Footy Department has not been able to perform to the level.
You must also remember that not all of the readers of Malthouse article know what is going on at MFC

It’s a Western Australian readership.

Garry was potted by many for not believing. He was concerned like many of us

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
