Yes me to, Derkson down back and Kentfield up forward has a nice ring to it.

bring him in for petty this week

I reckon JVR has got his number. That being said, I really like Lukers approach, he's like a more skillful AJ. Something we definitely need.

I'd definitely be supportive of giving him a go if his fitness is up to speed, that being said, most of our list don't seem to be fit.

And yet D Rev we had 11 shots to 4 in the last quarter in warm conditions and no Petty or Howes and Clarry carrying a head wound. I don’t think that their fitness is in question even though Milkshake was cramping badly.

The fact that he's a one-grabber and applies defensive pressure shouldn't preclude him from a game in the seniors.

Demonlanders are eternally salivating over recruits who have achieved absolutely zero. It's a bit like Lasseter's Reef or praying to Mary Mackillop.

Cranky Franky it is called optimism, hoping for the best rather than expecting the worse, our way can be disappointing whereas your way is always expecting the worst to avoid disappointment. We may both arrive on the same plane but I bet I enjoy the flight more.

I'm pretty sure if MM was to line up for this Deez this week - we'd have to start Max at FF and make Kosi 19th man.

Doesn’t seem to have any ability, would take a miracle.

Personally I prefer to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong, than a pessimist who is always right.

The MilkShake is a remarkable athlete.

In his 30s (turns 34 next month), post the setback of missing the premiership, The Shake has played some of his best footy deespite numerous injuries he keeps on "frothing-up" (unlike milk for a cappuccino as you only get to froth this milk once!).

No wonder he cramped as he's not had a run at form having played 11 of our games with a few out with injury.

I hope we "Do The Shake" in 2026 IMO.

BTW, I can't stand The Filth (I just wanted to say this as I saw an old filth supporter at the GPs today and I felt even sicker!)

I don't believe he is tall enough for a key position

This comment took me by surprise as he seems a big guy. How tall is tall enough these days? He's listed at 194cm

While I would prefer we had at least one key forward who is 196cm or taller (Ideally another who is close to 200cm who can pinch hit ruck). I think 194cm is tall enough to make it.

A few players for comparison

Harry McKay 204cm

Tom Lynch 199cm

Lance Franklin 199cm

Nick Larkey 198cm

Joel Amartey 197cm

Tom Hawkins 197cm

Harrison Perry 197cm

Jesse Hogan 195cm

Aaron Cadman 195cm

Josh Tracey 195cm

Matthew Jefferson 195cm

Tex Walker 194cm

Charlie Curnow 194cm

Jacob Van rooyen 193cm

Nate Caddy 193cm

Darcy Fogarty 192cm

Jack Darling 191cm

Jake Waterman 191cm

By memory A.Jakovich was 187 cm.

We will pick Kentfield when he is out of form for Casey or he will be the sub. That is the Demon way I guess.

Thanks for the eternal optimism.

Would love to see Kentfield get a shot...I mean why not, what other options are there we haven't tried and failed with? Just get the kids in there and he's coming off a fresh deal and some goals kicked I mean c'mon live a little!

Don’t forget that Luke’s hasn’t had a pre season yet and is coming off double pneumonia where he was a very sick boy earlier this year and lost a lot of weight.

It would be ridiculous to play him in the seniors this year with all of the pressure that goes with it.

Let him have a full pre season next year and hopefully then he is ready for senior games.

You are right there are plenty of good key forwards under 200 but most are accompanied by one or more over or there abouts

Collingwood is an odd one out but they occasionally use Cox 211 as a forward

Brisbane Hipwood 204

Crows Tilthorpe 201

Geelong Meale 203

Hawks Chol 200

Freo Jackson 200

Dogs Darcy 208

Suns Read 202 King 202

Giants Tallest is Riccardi 198

Port Marshall 198 although Whitlock is being groomed at 202

Carlton McKay 200 Young 202

Swans Ladham 202 but usually McLean 197 is tallest

Essendon Wright 203

Saints King 202

North Larkey 198

Richmong Lynch 199

West Coast J. Williams 198

Probably more important to have a key defender at that height.

Totally meaningless. St Kilda beat us with Butler as their main fwd.

Pies won a flak with Mihocek, Elliot & Hill as their key fwds.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
