Certainly he has and could have been, although many teams had very mixed results with their picks back then and I remember there was some scandal with Darling at the time that I won’t go into here. Possibly a set up by WCE.

Like there was with Curnow.

He went after Weid, as did McKay.

.... and we recruited Fullarton to fill this role, but even in our time of absolute desperation he hasn't been tried.  Is it too early to all him an epic fail?

Epic is a bit strong, given he wasn’t high picks lost by us.

Maybe just a fail if he doesn’t make it with us. That is a common result with cheap pick ups.

I don’t know that anyone can be called a failure, as no one has really been tried.
Even Woey and Bill only get a try as sub for 5min of game time and then back to the VFL.

Luker looks a readymade player. He’s got the quintessential AFL build. More importantly than just having the ideal body, he isn’t afraid to use it. I reckon his height won’t matter so much because of this sorely-needed quality. Very broad shoulders also bodes well in terms of the right growth in the right places. Also, attitude…

Hi WCW agree on everything Luker, looks like a great kid with huge potential. But on another note I am not on instagram Or Facebook however I am really surprised with the lack of club media regarding Christian Petracca, I was expecting to see a heap of shots of players and footy dept staff getting around Christian in hospital, etc. he’s our best player I expected to see more love, how is he travelling?

The thing is, most of the players are away at the moment. They’re on a six-day break and I know several of them and their partners are in Queensland, having flown out on Monday night. They’ll be back after the weekend, and I’m sure with that will come the visits etc.

One year deal according to Ralphy. Not overly enthused but probably the right thing to do if you rated him highly enough to grab him mid year.

Depending on further changes I’d probably start him at CHB at Casey next year.

I like this, give him a pre season and a chance to learn what the teams want.

I mean he would be costing peanuts, and Schache going essentially means he takes that spot.

Could be a late diamond however I wasn't too impressed with his stats in the WAFL before recruited IIRC. Recruiters must think there is enough to work with though.

Picking him up in the mid-season draft and then cutting him not 4 months later just would not make sense, especially for a big bloke in a position we are desperate to fill.

Gotta give him at least a year (probably should be 2 imo) and an off season to actually physically develop as well as learn our 'systems'.

We need to stop bumping player threads for a few days. I nearly had a full-blown panic attack that Luke Kenterfield might have asked the club to be traded to Coburg.

TBH, with the number of players leaving/retired/delisted, we may need Kenterfield in order to field a side.

With Schache and Brown out of his way, I would leave him forward myself.

Have to see how the final list changes break out but I’m not sure he has the athleticism to impact forward and good luck being a big crash and bash style forward until you’re 22+. I’d like to see him get a kick and use his skills for a while

That's fair. But as it stands we're looking like losing Brown and Schache from one end, and Tomlinson from the other, so I guess I'm going off where it's at now, but you're correct we may end up with just as many depth tall forwards again.

I don't have high expectations of Kentfield, but I like what I've seen in terms of intent and size, so I'm just interested to see how much he progresses after an AFL preseason both from a fitness perspective, but also from a forward craft perspective - pending new forwards coach.

I guess in reality we lost BBB a while ago, and haven't lost Schache because we haven't actually used  him.  Tommo moving on will definitely leave a tall defence depth gap, especially as we now seem to have 'locked in' (as much as anyone is locked in) Disco and Petty as forwards.

See who we draft, and possibly trade in for needs.

It will be an interesting off season and preseason.  Luker may well fill a need, as a developing tall - I hope all here remember that calls take time, and this will be his first preseason at AFL intensity.

Agree with another 12 months

We grabbed him from across the country and plugged him in

Needs an AFL preseason and the development of a full summer in the gym and on the track

Whilst he is raw and his VFL 2023 form showed us little, we need to give him a chance.  A punt , experiment perhaps but worth taking !!

Agree with you on all points Spirit of norm smith, it would have been a big shock for Luker to be uprooted in the middle of the year 18 yo and all and at 194cm, large frame and has physicality he could be good for us. Let’s hope he shows enough next year to stay on our books whilst he develops into another KPF/ KPD.

I was more referencing Casey. I don't expect Kentfield to play much, if any, AFL next year, so I was thinking back about watching the crowded Casey forward line this year and how that may have affected the development of both Kentfield and Jefferson.

I guess I just like the idea of Kentfield, Jefferson and Fullarton having more space and opportunity for Casey in 2025. Would be a little more aligned with the AFL team setup too, as opposed to having 4 or more talls.

Casey was woefully top heavy this year. A surplus of big logs & a lack of midfield talent & leg speed both in defence & out wide.

A dominant ruckman would also be handy.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
