It's Game Day and after 2 losses on the trot the Dees must win against the Saints today at the MCG to keep in touch with the Top 4. A loss today will see them drop out of the Top 8 for the first time since 2020.

Season on the line with this one.

And for those underestimating St Kilda, they’ve lost to Port by 11 away, GWS by 1 away, Hawthorn by 5 away and Freo by 17. And of course  they beat Collingwood in their only MCG appearance this year.

Not being hyperbolic, but I do honestly think that if we lose this, we will continue to struggle and may not make the 8.

I don't think that's hyperbolic. If we lose two on the trot to no finals teams, it will seriously affect our chances in what is a very tight year.

Win well and we will be 4th and 6 points off second. Lose and we'll be 9th and only one game from 12th.

Most of the rest of the season are 8 point games. Saints North and the return game against WCE are the only games against non finals contenders. We just have to win them.

And if we park the bus and grind out a 0-0 draw against Ross The Boss, we'll sneak into the eight on percentage over Walyalup, with an MCG final against the Cats in two weeks. Go Dees!

‘an MCG final against the Cats in two weeks’.
Self medicating and then posting at 2am is not a good idea.

Everyone's talking like the finals are on in two weeks with all of this 4th or 9th business and it's not even round 12/24!

I think our poor starts and most recent loss gives our upcoming opponents a psychological boost we can ill afford. We need to arrest the trend and return to the winners dias in a statement win.

It's going to be a grind this one, i am concerned about the Saints running power and their half backs on the MCG.

if we lose this game i think it'll be really challenging to finish top 4 this season,

Time for Viney, Oliver, Salem, May and all the other really good players who haven't been quite at their best to step up and find their best form because we desperately need them if 2024 is going to bring any sort of meaningful success.

memo to Goodwin.  His name is Bradley Hill.  He runs and runs and delivers.  Elite disposal.  Elite efficiency.   You must pay heavy attention to him and fellow quarterback Wanganeen-Milera.  Do not let them wander around unmanned!!!  FFS.

If we lose today, it’ll be a battle to get top 8. Lions, Dees, Suns all are outside the 8. Lose today and we have a tough road ahead!!

ps. Aside from Lever, this is our best 22.
(Saints arguably have their best 22 … Membrey & Crouch maybe could make them better)

Not confident at all and I’ve even put some money on the Saints ($3.40 is too good to resist). Our scoring and turnover game is a disaster at the minute and a lot of our mids just aren’t getting enough of the ball nor doing any damage with it. Hopefully we see a shift back to some of our old game plan today with a better inside 50 differential and we kick a decent score. The Saints have a very limited midfield so I’ll be disappointed if we don’t see better numbers out of Viney, Oliver and Sparrow.

$3.40 wowee ala Roaming Brian

someone who does not follow Melbourne is very confident.  Like last week.  It’s games like this that we should win easily that we indeed do not turn up to play until half time.
Game Over.   That first quarter

still not confident

absolutely. i'm unsure who we have that's actually capable of going with them though, perhaps it's a case of whoever is on them needs to make themselves dangerous, you don't mind Hill getting 25 cheap touches on the wing if his opponent kicks 4 goals

Here's hoping.

If Petty plays fwd and struggles, then surely the fwd experience is over for him.

I think he will play down back today.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
