I'm a big Kane Cornes fan but he's missed the point here.

The landscape in the player trade industry has changed over the years, contracts mean nothing now.

Once a player nominates a club which he did with Sydney, then realistically we've got to find the best deal possible for the club. We didn't help out a contender, we had no other choice because that's where Grundy wanted to go.

Yes we could have held him ransom to his contract and all that, but doing that would have benefited no one in the long run. The Grundy Melbourne relation was never going to work so we had to trade him off.

Grundy is obviously playing good footy and well on his way to success and Max is hopefully on his way to a 7th All Australian.  Both came out winners in my eyes.

that explains ALOT!

Perhaps it's just part of being a fan, but it seems many dees fans, for all manner of things, don't apply the same logic to the dees as they do to other clubs.

Flags are hard to win. Yes we won a flag under goody, but somehow one flag in 7 season for us is a fail.

We are consistently a contender and give ourselves a chance to win a flag. Underachieved.

The cats and swans are a well run clubs that are always in the frame. Wouldn't it be be great to be a fan of those clubs.

Other contenders get beaten when favorites, a blip. We get beaten as favorites and it's time to rebuild and 'play the kids'.

Other teams struggle for a block of time but they have key players out injured. We have a rough patch for the same reason and we lack depth.

And on, and on and on.

In ten years time we may have seen the back of 5, 7, 13, 11, 18 And others and we’ll be saying well 1 flag since 64, is that ok?

My view is we should have one more in this period. But that’s just me.

I don’t think the info has ever been given out, but that is only part of the problem, We have massively assisted an oponent, to being a Huge Premiership Contender, whilst our own list is considerably weaker.
A complete shipshow in my opinion

  • It should have been 2 in 3 years. Melbourne left one on the table in 2023.
  • The Brisvagus three-peat doesn't count. They had an influx of players from Fitzroy. Give me Norf's best 8 players and I'll give you premierships in '25, '26 and '27.

Only two of the Fitzroy players that Brisbane picked up in the "merge" played in their threepeat.

Chris Johnson and Alastair Lynch were the two.  They played in all three premierships.

edit:  Lynch went there two years prior.  So Johnson was the only one.

Definitely wasted at least one flag, then the wasted years of 2019 and 2020 after reaching a PF. I know there are a lot of caveats, specially for 2019 but still.

We'll soon find out what this season will be like.

He’ll have delayed concussion tomorrow.

The funny thing is he's already had a major concussion this year courtesy of Peter Wright.

There are a handful of clubs that take concussion seriously whilst the other just don't give a truck.

e.g Port, Geelong, Sydney, Carlton please add others you are aware of for the exercise.

This is about the coin toss, right? I don’t understand how they come up with a percentage (?)

I wonder what would happen to the AFL following in NSW if, god forbid, the Swans were bad?

5 or 6 years being at the bottom of the ladder.

Probably empty SCG and underwhelming membership numbers. Must be a thing of nightmares for the AFL House.

I work with a rusted on Swans season ticket holder and he hates going up there because nobody watches the game. They're all constantly going to the bar, talking or looking at their phones. They also like getting tarted up like they're going to the theatre. Swans games are an occasion to be seen at, not to see the Swans, apparently.

Interesting that in Cunningham’s return game, against WCE in round 4, he had about 1/4 of his usual output.

Cameron definitely didn’t play as well last season after the “friendly fire” from Rohan.

He is named on the bench tomorrow and they have not named Rohan.
Guess they don’t want to risk more friendly fire?

Pies early stumbles were very enjoyable to watch. not enjoying their improved recent form.

Freo are about as reliable as the weather but would be good if they could do a number on the pies tonight

Annoying when you're looking forward to watching some football on a Friday night only to find out Collingwood are playing.

Does not look like much of a crowd, guess the opposition not interesting enough.

I will be watching the Giro D'Italia later tonight.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
