What has our list managers done that's left us in a situation where we our best key forward is 187cm.

JVR has shown some promise but he is as fustrating as Petty at times.

Petty was a premiership defender and we throw him forward because we can't trade/draft any one [censored] decent.

I know many on here will crucify me for saying this but JVR will continue to struggle with his trampoline hands, Petty aint a forward and is seriously overated on this site and Tracc will not get anywhere near superstar status till he nails gettable , clutch goals , when it counts! We have been CRYING out for a Gorilla forward for YEARS and the fact we still haven't been able to secure one really is starting to hit home. Other clubs seem to be able to haggle and trade aggresively but we seemingly cannot! End of rant, for now!

I actually think it would be detrimental to Jeffo's development to play him in the seniors atm.

He is starting to find consistency at VFL level and kicking goals. Moving up to AFL level is a huge jump up and may kill his confidence. Would rather he keeps kicking bags at VFL for a while.

I will say I'm feeling positive about him long term after watching his last few games. Great mover and a natural forward, just needs to keep building his body and tank. He is too inconsistent throughout games atm.

what other clubs have haggled and traded aggressively to bring in a gun key forward?

  • bears - joe daniher as a free agent
  • puddy tatts - cameron for the 3 first round picks they got for tim kelly (plus a nice farm to call his own)
  • tiggas - tom lynch as a free agent

key forwards don't grow on trees

by the by, we traded one in - ben brown, for the pick we got for brayden preuss for gw$, effectively - and won a premiership

We had the chance to re sign Jessie Hogan and we didn't!

After he’d kicked 5 goals in 7 games in 2020? Demonland would’ve melted down if we’d signed him then

His draft year was just not that good, even Cadman at pick 1 is still well away from being a full fledged key forward. Needs way more time.

20 years old and not even 2 seasons in.  The kid isn't ready, and doesn't have the build like JVR to hold up at AFL level.

If Jeffo was a Casey player he would barely be talked about as a mid season draft prospect.

He might be starting to turn the corner but he’s still a long way to go

The amount of pressure the fans put on JVR, and now Jefferson is a bit silly.

Jake Waterman has exploded as one of the games best forwards only now, after years being a middling prospect.

Patience is required.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man, it’s time, bring Jeffo on.

Give Fullerton a go first. He may not be a world beater, but he is athletic and will give a contest. Jeffo ain’t there yet.

I must agree - Fullarton was recruited as a mature, game ready tall forward who can ruck a bit.
We have desperately needed both this season but haven’t given him a look in.  Buyers regret?
If he doesn’t get picked when we are as desperate as we are he will be a totally wasted trade.

Who is Jeffo?

our saviour apparently.

Not a good idea to bring him in when we're under the pump. too much expectation for a young key.

It also questions the 'premiership window closing' narrative, as we have a great crop of young players ready to make massive developments over the next 3-5 years. He is tracking great, as are a bunch of others.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
