How many more Yankee concepts do we have to endorse?

We award medals in this country not rings.

If you want a ring go and look for one on a Friday or Saturday night.

Perhaps they should start naming them World Premiers 🤣🤣🤣. Imagine the flag "World Premiers 2024"

My take of it is that it's Collingwood yet again trying to bully their way into wanting their own outcome.  I don't have an issue with rings per se, but it would be a club thing if they want to do that, not the AFL.  The players get medals from the AFL, the club can commemmorate it anyway they like.  Melbourne did present rings, and they look great, certainly not the ugly, garish thing that was on Twitter yesterday, but a classy ring with the MFC emblem and engraving on the inside.  But my point was, it was a club thing.  If Collingwood want to give their players rings, go for it.  But don't bully the rest of the clubs and the AFL to do it.

MFC did this about 12 months after our 2021 premiership, with a dinner and presentation of premiership rings in the MCC Committee Room involving the 23 in the flag team.

Is there an image of our ring available?

In the US the rings are designed and paid for by the winning organisation.

Why every time the Pies win a flag they want anything and everything given to their players/club? [censored] club with [censored] supporters.

At $50,000, $2.2m just for players!!!  Plus some for staff.

Its a ridiculously indulgent way to spend approx $3.0m.    It will be closer to $6.0m if they add AFLW premiership rings ...

Sure recognise all involved but $50,000 apiece?.  If they really want “The ability to recognise all staff and make them feel special for all the hard work and to have something on their shelf is a good thing."  Give them a small replica of the Premiership Cup.

so, spend less per person and put the rest into junior or country AFL.

The more I think about it, I'm not a fan.

Maybe chip in a bit more to spruce up the medals but it's what they represent that gives them their value.

And it's not like the same players get them every year. We all know how hard they are to come by.

Plus players don't do it too tough with their end of season holiday and their salaries these days.

Hard to fathom fifty years ago your plumber would be fixing your dunny on a Friday night and then playing at the MCG the next.

But back to rings yea, na for me.

Thanks.

Much more stylish than the AFL example.  But still a bit of a 'knuckleduster'

Out of interest, how many men on here would wear a 'knuckleduster' type ring?

How pathetically insecure is this competition that it desperately grabs at these garish practices from overseas sports?

Yeah, the women's one was nothing like that, none of the bling on it.  That one to me is still too blingy

Spot on - the bling!  It looks so trashy.

Absolutely this. If the pies want to spend $50k per head of their own money they can buy all their players runners-up rings this year too after we beat them in the granny - the league gives the winners on the day a medal, no need to change that imo

Yeh that is not a great look.

Still think the simple solution is Gold Medals for those in the match day squad, Silver Medals for those who didnt play GF.

A prototype of Collingwood's 2023 premiership ring.

I've change my mind. Looking at this I can see now that it perfectly represents Collingwood; shockingly expensive, desperately attention-seeking, and profoundly ugly.

But here comes the key quote behind it all. Collingwood president identifying a chance to sell 'premium' merchandise to the tasteless property developer and 'legitimate import-export enterprise' crowd. You'd only need to sell 100 at $50k a pop to be looking at millions in profit.

"A version of it should be available for members and collectors."

Not a fan of the ring idea, if you win multiple will you be required to wear them all to formal events.  I think most will end up in a draw.  Gee $50k each, they need to shop in the Middle East much cheaper...

However, I think recognition medals or similar to the players that played during the season and help the team get there is important, as a whole club wins a premiership, not just those selected on the day.

This is bollocks.  If the AFL have $2.2M to [censored] away, I'm sure grass roots footy could find a use for it.  Or Past Player Welfare perhaps.

They already get a medal. I'd suggest that any player who feels he needs a dirty great chunk of bling to remember his premiership has been dodging the concussion protocols

Glad to see the AFL are discussing the important issues in football

maybe use the money to make umpires professional?

Smoke and Mirrors.
The way of the world.

It'll happen, sure as eggs are eggs, It'll happen.

A simple medal is fine. It's what it signifies, not how much it cost. Save the money for something worthwhile....

Yes Thanks i would want one because No-one else seems to want them. I also use the Melbourne Premiership ring as my picture on YouTube. I didn't get the 2021 one but i would gladly accept one or one in another year that we won... when we win it.

What a load of rubbish from the AFL who are trying to corporatise/americanise our game. Give it to Junior Footy development. There are lots of people at grass roots who spend a lot of their own money just to have basic facilities.

Likewise I cannot justify building a stadium in Tasmania that is only going to be used for 8 times a year. Maybe it is going to be used to house poeple who are looking for a roof over their head. Where are the priorities in Society.

Just because American Sport does, NRL (heaven forbid if we copy them) doesn't mean it is good for the game.

Unless any of us are premiership players, why would any of us get one?  These are presented to the players, not anyone else.

Apologies KDF, although I know I wouldn't get one of the AFL multi thousand dollar ones, and personally I like the idea of victory rings, I'm not a bling person myself but I meant I'd like one of the commemorative ones that fans can get.

Why could not Collingwood divert some funds (for rings) toward public housing instead of pumping up (overpaid)egos. A Premiership medal from the AFL would mean a lot more in the long run !!!(and provide more to society as a whole.

More American Imperialist carp. Just like that stupid hall of fame.

Surely we can come up with something original.

Premiership stubby cooler !!!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
