He is used to being bigger and stronger than his opponents which shower with him trying to push them off

Not sure what to make of this.  In any case, shouldn’t he be showering with his teammates?

He struggled with the pace of the game, but he's an 18 year old playing his first game at the level against last years grand finalists (and deserved premiers).

His effort was good, he got to a number of contests early, laid a number of strong tackles and showed some footy smarts. He's got a good frame and with more size he'll break some of those tackles he got held in last night. Midfield scope in future. He'll be a player with more time to develop.

Poor night for him to debut. His team mates should apologize to him for the pathetic effort they served up. He needs better leadership than what he was offered last night.

Thought he was good considering the opposition and how disappointing some of our leaders performed. Except him to go well against Richmond.

Some people jumped the gun with their criticism of the kid.  I thought for a debut against a-grade opposition on a night where very few teammates turned up, he showed plenty.

Got some kicks, a shot on goal, laid some tackles and showed some endeavour.

Have seen far worse debuts from players who went on to have great careers.

He is a victim of his own marketability in that more eyes were on him since draft night than most other draftees at his level.

Bank the experience and move on!

I was pretty impressed with him tbh, was in the right spots and some of his work with his hands was very good.

I don’t think he was quite ready but part of me wonders if the debut was orchestrated to throw some spark into a clearly tired side.

On the game itself, I don’t think I’ve seen us chase tail like that in a long time. We could not get near it all night

Considering how his teammates went, he had a tough first game.

Needs to adjust to a high pressure game that he experienced and he'll learn from it.

Put consistent effort in and even under pressure got out some good clean handballs to others.  He'll be better the next game and looks like he's another good find.

It reminded me of Petty's debut against the Saints. You could see that he has all the AFL qualities, but a little too small against a top-tier opponent and he was required to be a match winner every time he went near the ball, rather than play a role, which Windsor / Howes got to do at the start of this year, and McVee last year.

I have no worries about him long term. It's much easier to fend and run when you have lots to kick to and support around you. We didn't have that at all last night.

We might not get a chance to persist with him because with Kozzie back and Salem then out, we probably need a full time mid (Hunter or Laurie) or a half back (if Riv goes in there). None of which is on Kolt. He'll be right.

I thought he brought a lot of energy to the contest particularly in the first 5-10 minutes and was not helped by the fact that his experienced team mates mostly had a horrible off night too. Little support around him and far from disgraced.
4 tackles was more than the more senior forwards combined.

I hope he gets a run at it and is left in the side.

He will improve and the experience of Anzac eve big crowd will be invaluable to him and a couple of other youngsters.

Kozzie back might add some opportunities too.

Solid enough debut.  He was the least of our issues on Thursday night. He's definitely got the right stuff.

Grounded and well spoken. Sounds like he's fitting in well and getting great mentorship from Viney. Hopefully his positive mindset helps him thrive at the Dees!

Thought the same thing LT thoughtful, articulate and well spoken, he has a lot of layers. I also hope that he gets a good run at this year as I suspect that he is the real deal.

Couldn’t have asked for less support from the senior players.

I thought he was ok but needs time. Hopefully he gets another crack at it against the Tigers.

What an impressive and mature young man. Hope to see him on Anzac Eve. He’s definitely a keeper.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
