Agree.  I suspect that it was planned to take Petty off maybe mid Q3 - well planned, or very lucky, to have Petty on the ground when the two KPP defenders went down and Hore as the sub.

I was amazed to hear the TMc had 100% and BBB 95% TOG. The versatility of our selected team certainly paid dividends today.

FFS Petty hardly had a preseason and as above he probably wasn’t excpected to play a full game.  Not sure what was his TOG %?

Hore stays for sure but he's 15kg minimum lighter the Steven.  Not sure how we replace how May playes.  A real test for the coaches to be creative.

Contrary to some on here I thought Petty's last 1/4 looked like he had never left defence. very good, espe in the air.

Sometimes you need to control the game / momentum and allow fellow players to recharge a little.  While making the oppo work and at the same time preventing them scoring.   You might add the odd bonus goal also if your kicking / leading is on

Then back to swarming mode again.

Our best DNA for mine is the ability to do both and knowing when to do so.  And being able to do so as we've seen in the last two matches.

The injuries today really did sour a beautiful day at the G. We more than held our own after the injuries to key players but our opposition in the next fortnight are a class above where the Hawks are at.

How are you not happy with a 55pt smashing? they scored 5 goals for the match and we lost our 2 best defenders.  They came with everything in the 2nd Q and we repelled them. 

Again people going on about the result, yes I'm glad we beat them and showed some good football, but again for a quarter and and half we didn't think it through, started bombing it in instead of working through it, against these type of sides you do that so when when we play better sides it's not a problem.

It was meant and I didn't say it clear enough that the Hawks and the roos are a young sides and not littered enough with top line players.

But what i meant waa goody went with hore as the sub. And he was therefore available to replace may down back.

Lovely game to watch, if you’re a Dees fan, even team effort, evidence of plan and execution, and a real esprit d’corps across the whole list. My votes were a mess, still don’t feel like i did justice to all the effort. We were two weight classes better than the Hawks, had no problem with Hawks having a go in the 2nd, but there was always a straight right coming that was going to sit them on their [censored].

1st shout out today is for Viney, while Trac played beast mode, I absolutely loved Vinny’s game at the bottom of so many packs, working hard inside. I was really worried about the absence of Gus this year, he did so many team role jobs so well (and selflessly) I was sure we would miss him more. Viney, who has never been shy about team roles, has however adapted his game and I see him as doing all his usual 1% stuff and fierce tackles that he normally does, but has somehow grown and doing all the tasks that Gus used to do. It also helps that Salem has got through his thyroid issues.

Kozzie is going to be better than Cyril, I see the same aggression but a lot less stupidity, well done coaches, and well done club for keeping him in Red and Blue, the SA clubs would kill for him in their line ups. He might be a sneaky for AA squad this year.

ANB played a fantastic game at high DE and great decision making, and across 4 quarters, his km would have been huge, today’s game was one of his all time best, would love to know the distance he travelled. I also think it is time for a reset in attitude towards him we can talk pre ‘21 ANB and post 21 ANB, he has been a different player since the GF year but some fans just can’t revisit 1st impressions. He kicked the two best goals last week with high difficulty factor, and his decision about retaining ball or tapping it on has improved out of sight. 

Marty Hore is playing every game like it is his last, just an amazing story, and between him and Howes look like serious players who I expected little from apart from cameos but were part of a backline that kept the opposition to 38pts.

Ben Brown makes me think of a two sword duel in the movies, He’s the long sword, that you have to respect, but in paying attention to Brown and JVR, you find the short swords of Frisch, Chandler, Kossie, Billings etc have poked a dozen holes in you and you’re leaking blood everywhere. I know this tactic is 150 years old, but Brown is playing his role perfectly, and he combines better with JVR than TMac does, I still don’t understand why, he just does, no disrespect to Tmac, but I think it is something the coaches have recognized and it’s not just about Brown getting his knee right. Kudos to Tmac to not sooking about going back.

Chandler > Spargo, unfair maybe, but Chandler is the Jack Russell of the footy team, keeps winning battles you don’t expect, and a much better kick from 30m +.   

Massive win at selection this week, also Goodwin had another great game with evidence of system and innovation. ‘Pacing’ with better choice of options going forward clearly on display. Not feeling the loss of Yze as much as some woe is us types predicted.

McVee is a 2nd year player, 28 games, already his output this season is 30% above the 25 other games (except HB), could be driving in the Grand Prix he’s so cool under pressure.

This season is feeling very promising, two hard weeks ahead but we are every chance. 

Shows how solid our structures are , even playing under a lot of adversity,  losing Gus , Bowser , and today May and Lever but still a 50 point plus win.

Absolutely. At the end of the 3rd game it is looking like I was way off. Fingers crossed it will last throughout the season. TMac way better than BB and I still have doubts on him. Injuri3s are part of the game, never let them sour a win. Great test for the remaining defenders. Hawthorn were well on top for parts of qtr 2 and 3, just couldn’t score. Our ball movement is great

We sat in the front row behind the goals near the DA. I thought Petty moved ok and certainly took over as the leader in the backline, he was vocal and direct with the rest of the backs in the third quarter.

Had a quick browse at game day thread and saw someone had a go at Fritta for not putting any defensive pressure on. Thought that was wrong, he worked his backside off both ways with a couple of good tackles.

A lot credit needs to go to our fitness staff. Langdon as expected covered the most KMs for the game, T Mac and Brown were 3rd and 4th respectively for distance covered during the match.

I thought it was a real professional performance and at times clinical.

Trac's spoil towards the end of the game was a ripper and celebrated like he'd scored a goal. great attitude from one of our leaders to track back like that and not allow the junk time goal. Great to see.
