He had 20 kicks, he's only ever had more than 20 kicks once. Brilliant game.

If he can have 10-15 kicks a week and spread the way he did today, he'll be an integral player for us.

And 14 marks. Not too shabby.

Yeah, don't get that at all.  I hardly think I've see Laurie play a hard contested manner or with a defensive mindset.  In neither of the practice matches did he show any class and poise handling the ball that is suposely his one wood.  Look good on him if he goes on and proves me wrong, but from all I've seen, he's just not senior AFL standard.

We have plenty of other up and comming players like Wowewodin, Kynan Brown, Throstrup etc that are already ahead of him and don't see why we keep gifting him games or why we extended his contract.  Hope he's only getting paid peanuts.

Billings on the other hand had been great in both our practice matches and I thought it was a huge mistake to play him starting as the sub last week.

There are likely things internally we don't see that Goody is rewarding.

I agree game day it hasn't shine through and it isn't commentary of the player will make it or not.

It's interesting that the vibe seems to be Lever had an average game.

I thought he was terrific.

He had 8 score involvements- only maxy, Billings and tracc had more.

He also had 17 disposals and was part of a group effort that shut down lobb, naughton and weightman.

He was a key to how well we transitioned from the back half.

Forgot to say it was good to see Max moving around for the ball ups and jumping instead of being crashed into made a difference.

Billings was brilliant.

I watched on telly and I had the same thoughts. He was very solid.

I thought in parts he was okay. Certainly lost a bit of confidence. My biggest watch is our backline makeup, and maybe this is a week by week scenario, subject to opposition. But Lever and Hore play a similar role. Howes is also quite tall and Rivers can play taller. No answers from me, but curious to see how this transpires during the year.

I think someone said he had his worst game ever. His first 6 weeks or so for Melbourne before we accepted he's an intercept defender not key defender were pretty bad.

As I sat in the members I reflected on two of the moves made off-season. Harmsey going to the dogs and Jibba joining the dees.

The emotion of losing a premiership player was hard to swallow, but the move was right for both parties. Billings was almost written off, and a bit of a risk for the dees.

Today's game showed the FD's vision, and if Billings can maintain form and fitness he may be the recruit of the year.

Agree, I thought Lever took a bit more care with the ball. Was creative without being overly risky.

I think every kick forward was a turnover. He realises this and tries to kick sideways or back and sometimes there is no one there. He only kicks long and high to a pack. I think he needs to look for other options. But yes he was ok.

Lever's disposal has never been one of his strengths. Kicks the ball in a rainbow trajectory

I'm surprised we don't have a player running by for the handball.

kudos to 2 of the favourite whipping boys. Seeing Tmac on the backline made me very nervous but watching him really closely at the game I thought he was fantastic. He made great decisions about when to play off and support other defenders and when to lock on one on one. I was expecting a howler or 3 with the ball, but his disposal was as good as any of the other defenders today, taking short and powerful kicks that hit the targets with 83% efficiency (according to the stats).

also BBB - presented well, clunked a few, but used his gogogadget arms to get the ball to the ground in pretty much every contest he was involved in.

both of them have bigger challenges ahead, but I was shocked we picked both this week after compromised pre-seasons, and I was wrong.

totally agree he was amazing.

The G really suits him

Good point. He might play better at the mighty G rather than the crappy Docklands ground.

Speak for yourself. Me and Clarry need 17 days indoors now to recover.
It’s a good thing Bowey had a week off.

Later tonight … spoiler alert. We win 🤣🤣it’s a good watch

That was one of the best games I have ever seen Clarry play. Yes he has had a number of games with better numbers, but his poise, delivery and team first attitude was beyond amazing.

Billings was super, mistake not playing him for a full game last week.

BBB and Tmac were both great.

Great to see Marty Hore back as well, really worked into the game and seemed settled by the end

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
