Don't see the point of just pushing Salem back if we've trained all pre season to have him spend time on ball, it's just back to same old again, try someone else at half back, maybe Hore.

Also re Max being blocked , shepherded, bumped off the ball pretty sure it's still in the rules that the ball has to be within 5 meters but of course just crickets from AFL commentators.

Just out in the media (yes huge caveats on reliability) that JUH is linked with the Hawks. Mentions Collingwood, Essendon and a few others also in the mix. Why oh why are we not in there? It is very early days, but surely we have been having some sort of conversation with his management for a while now. Why are we always late to the party or never invited at all? Given our obvious issues, our massive warchest, our list demographic we are the best place for him... It is infuriating.

You really think because it’s not in the media the Melbourne list management team have just decided to have no interest in perhaps the best young key forward in the game? When he kicks 6 on Tomlinson this weekend they might be asking who that guy is?

Good clubs don’t leak trade plans in March.

I'm hoping we go with:

Outs - Bowey, Schache & Spargo

In - Pickett, Fullarton & Hore

B:     McVee      May           Lever

HB:   Hore         Tommo     Rivers

C:    Windsor     Viney        Langdon

HF:   ANB          Fullarton    Pickett

F:     Fritsch       JVR           Chandler

R:     Gawn         Oliver        Trac

Int:   Sparrow     Howes      Billings     Salem

Sub: Laurie

In: Woey, Kozzy

Out: Bowey, Spargo

Yes Schache sucked, but Fullarton is coming back from injury, has had minimal exposure to our system with no game time in the 2s. With Petty back against the Hawks, I would hold out against including Fullarton.

Spargo is well underdone and with a sore achilles, he should be dropped. Laurie has put in a lot of work and deserves time in the 1sts to build some synergy with the team. Bailey, Chandler or Billings to start as sub.

Woey comes into HB instead of Hore as we will be way to tall in the backline otherwise. Woey will be more competitive and tougher than Billings as others have suggested.

BBB a lock.

A lock in your opinion or a lock full stop?

A hobbling BBB is a better option than a fully fit Schache.

The opposition would be far more worried about the former and he has a knack of kicking goals against the Dogs in early season MCG games.

The only consequence here is that JVR will back to second ruck duties, assuming Fullarton isn't selected.

Why is our game starting at 1 & not 1:10? Are games starting 10 minutes earlier now?

First 9 rounds are 1pm for Sunday games. Then they revert back to 1:10 games.

Just coz AFL.

Same.

At the end of the day, we know Brown is cooked, but he's still going to drag the number one defender regardless because on a good day he can be dangerous with his reach.

There were stages last week Sydney's talls paid no respect to Schache and used McCartin who's their best defender on JVR which clearly wouldn't happen if Brown was playing.

Brown in is such an easy call. He just needs to compete for a couple weeks til his knee blows up again. By that time, Petty will be ready to roll.

If BBB plays, he likely draws Liam Jones. Which leaves O'Donnell for JVR and suddenly an awkward match up for Fristch who will relish the space BBB will create. Make it happen!

I heard they're leaning towards TMAC replacing Schache.

Nobody could be less impactful than Schache.

No brainer

Kozzy ------ Laurie

Fullerton ----- Schache

Hore ------ Bowey

Woewodin ------- Spargo/Chandler

I think it likely to be Tommy or BBB, HP an outside chance but probably needs a bit more time.

Goody was talking about discussions after training today so will be interesting to see which way it falls.

Looking at those training videos Brown looks pretty central as a forward target.

He is in along with Pickett

Maybe Hore or Woewodin for Bowey

we still have a solid back six without Salem having to play there.

McVee May Tomlinson

Howes Lever Rivers

If BBB is an option have we also considered Neitz? Anyone checked on Allen Jakovich? How about Fred Fanning, what’s he up to?

Fullarton or if desperately needed I’ll accept Tom McDonald. But not BBB just weeks from knee surgery with little to no preseason.

If it's between Tmac and BBB, and assuming both are are at the same level fitness wise, i suspect they will go with Tmac becuase he can do some centre square ruck duties, whereas BBB can't, and is a better ruck inside 50 than BBB.

If they play BBB, JVR will have to give Maxy a chop out and i'd prefer he is allowed to just play forward.

An interesting dynamic created by the Opening Round concept is that 4 of the 8 teams (dees, giants, suns and lions) will be playing their second games for the season against teams playing their first (the pies are playing the swans and the tigers are playing the blues).

Every year commentators talk about teams having a bit of ring rust in the first round and struggle a bit to pick up the speed and intensity.

That could well be a myth, but if not, the 4 teams that played in the OR tjhat play teams playing their first games for the season could have an advantage over their opponents.

clear that they have far more faith in jvr as relief ruck than they do schache - after half time, it was noticeable vs the bloods that jvr had the shin guard on and schache did not

To be Frank, DeeSpencer NO. Not unless you're dabbling in some hitherto unrevealed black arts. But on a positive note David Schwartz has miraculously been resurrected at SEN.

True.

But i suspect moving forward, Schache wont be competing with JVR to give Maxy a chop out. He will be working on his ruck craft at Casey. Based on his performance in the Swans game he'll be working on it at Casey for the foreseeable future.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
