Anyone heard anything about gus recently? I hope he's doing OK. 

There was a free kick paid in the final quarter of Carlton and Port Adelaide where a Carlton defender leapt up to spoil and collided with the Port player at the 50 metre arc. Unlike Maynard, when that the defender realised he would collide with the Port player, he then actually puts out his hands to push off him. He was still penalised which seemed like the wrong decision because there didn't appear to be any head high contact.

I know we all need to move on from this but one of this things that angered me so much about the Collingwood tribunal defence was the discussion around 'reaction times' and it being somehow impossible for Maynard to have taken any protective measures to reduce the possibility of injury - they even had some kind of neurologist to support the claim. Anyone who has played any kind of fast-moving sport knows that it was complete nonsense.

It was bloody ridiculous and felt like a banana republic court.

Anyone knows that our brains can process and make decisions in milliseconds. He had plenty of time to assess the situation and take action.

Interesting that the brain dead commentators still saying “ what could he do… he was in the air” despite the fact he absolutely changed everything about the type of connection he was about to make while in the air! yep.. that tribunal call still makes me furious.

Running back with the flight of the ball, so bloody brave. Never ever will I move on, if Maynard had owned it and apologized then maybe, but the victim blaming and BS about what he could have done, was next level garbage.    

We miss him so much more than I thought we would.. 

Gaping hole, spiritually as well as his on-field stuff.

Agree if Angus had of been a raging bull would Maynard have dropped his shoulder and aimed for it, highly unlikely me thinks.

The other irony is yesterday a west coast player got a week for doing the same thing but not as bad & the player was Andy brayshaw.

He’s not doing ok.

Last night Lever and Melky were speakers at an event in Shepparton.

Gus is struggling, according to Rick. He still can’t bring himself to be involved with footy for obvious reasons, but mainly because he can’t be in loud environments, he can’t handle high levels of noise and this is why he attended that one match but hasn’t attended any subsequent matches.

Rick also said that Gussy’s absence has had a profound impact on the boys and continues to do so to this day. 

Just a little PS for those who think we need to get over it and/or we’re making too big a deal of the loss of Gus… maybe now you’ll lay off with these comments.

It appears that Gus was our spiritual leader within the club (I.e. Selwood to the cats).

I really hope that the sports psychologists are heavily involved with the team, we certainly cannot replace Gus, but the team certainly needs to work through not having him within the 4 walls of the club.

Well said ! And let me tell all of you that one day, in a practice match , with the ball 150m away, Lethal knocked out Laurie Fowler with the hardest punch I can ever recall, then he trotted off up the ground. Fowler carried off but no doubt he fronted up the following week . No action against Matthews.  I recall it well. It was a pleasant autumn day and I persuaded  my wife we should take the kids ( about 5 and 7) to watch a bit of footy in relaxed circumstances . And the king hit was about 15m from us . The said wife never attended again and forever doubted my judgment !

I despise Maynard and want him out of the game.

more importantly I despise everyone involved in that Potemkin tribunal including the AFL, the compromised Gleeson and I’ve got some brickbats for our club for not being far more vocal

God it sucks so hard. The whole thing. I will never forgive the afl or maynard or the tribunal. Scum, all of them.

This incident has totally changed how I feel about this game. Something died in me that night. 
It still eats at me what that POS did and how he got rewarded for it.

Fix was in for last year's flag and the tribunal decision plus AFL not appealing gave it away. We were never winning it.

Here, here Jaded. I don't think I'll ever get over that night and the outcomes that followed. The AFL decided to put the person/players welfare second and it just kills me.

So saddened to hear that Gus is still struggling with the effects its having on his health. I can only imagine how this is all effecting the playing group who must miss him dearly.

He is forever my favourite Melbourne player and going to games this year without him being out there has really got me down at every game.

Smith was circa 83/4 and I was about 25 metres from it. That sound has never left my memory. Matthews was by far the nastiest POS to have played the game and he is not remembered for that by the majority unfortunately.

I hope they get him to the best and fairest  just so there can be some sort of thankyou and goodbye.

Looking back I think the club stuffed up offering him that match say role. He should have done a farewell lap instead so we could say thank you.
