I have said it here before, the Dees are my "second team", I do watch all their games, mostly on tv but occasionally live and have even been an MFC member the last few seasons.

I was even thinking of getting a Demonland t-shirt, like the design. Do they come in Navy Blue & White though?

Did we reach too far for Windsor on draft night? Overlooked Caddy and Connor O’Sullivan. Windsor has not adjusted to the half back role, so he goes back onto a wing, is it worth using pick 7 on a winger ? How much impact can he have? Would probably need to become an inside mid in time to justify the pick.

I think Windsor will be fine, but he needs to be played in the role that allows him to make the most of his abilities at this time (ie the wing).

He also will benefit from doing a full pre season next year if he is completely over his foot issues.

Would Caddy do any better in our system than our current players? I'm sure Goodwin would coach all the flair out of him within the first few months and he'd end up competing for marks in packs instead of leading.

Expecting to see a better Windsor after the break. He’s had some good games against good opposition this year. Excellent against Hawthorn. Very good fresh against GWS. Very good against Sydney. He’s just hit the wall the last few weeks as the interrupted preseason has impacted him.

I think half back has been important in his development and he’s shown signs of learning how to defend and impact aerial.

The biggest concern has been his kicking and lack of composure with the ball but that’s where a disrupted preseason can play a role. I also think he used to kick in a more natural across his body motion and now he’s quite stiff and too straight which is a common Choc Williams side effect but I might be wrong on that.

A lot of players suffer 2nd year let downs and Caleb might be another.

I reckon Windsor showed more all of last year (and in his better games against Hawks and Sydney this year) than either Caddy or O’Sullivan have in the same timeframe

No disrespect to either of those players as I think both will be stars in their own right, but Windsor has already shown capacity to have 25+ disposal games with high metres gained and even a goal here and there

Plus I’d argue he fit our list needs more than either of those players

I'm not sure some of our assistant coaches are 'up to scratch'. The last three years we've had as many, if not more, players go backwards as have progressed.

I remember attending a B&F some years back when Scott West was our midfield coach.

It was noticeable how many of our players were effusive of his coaching when receiving of their awards.

I've rarely heard similar mention of our coaching staff since.

Isn't getting anywhere near enough of the pill of late. 6, 9, 6, 10 although he did have a good 25 possession game against Sydney.

Is perfectly suited to the modern game with the pace and metres gained he could offer us going forward, so it's up to the coaching staff to get the best out of him and play him in a position where he can flourish. Watching an 'over the hill' Dan Butler kicking goals on him isn't doing anyone any favours.

I'm pleased he's spending more time further up the field in the last 2 games.

You can build a premiership team around a gun CHF or gun CHB.

I'm not downplaying Windsor's talent but you can pluck a wingman from anywhere that can give you 25 plus possessions off a wing.

It's the rare hybrid forwards like Caddy that are completely hard to find and we've learnt that the hard way. I find it strange you think a wingman is a better fit for our list then the gun up and coming key forward that is literally what our list is crying out for.

Caddy has all the traits to be a Charlie Curnow type forward imo.

I think Windsor will be a solid player, but his disposal by foot is pretty poor and this is something im confident he can't work on. Right now, he is rated as below average for effective kicks.

Interrupted pre-season. Injuries during the season. He's been limited due to those factors as a kid.

However, the coaches have done him no favours playing him off halfback this season. He's not great defensively, and others such as Bowey, Salem, Rivers have been used as the rebounders out of defence. It means he's played more lock down defence, and for a player of his talent and skillset, that's a waste and a mistake. You shouldn't need to waste years or your career playing in another position just to learn basic football skills like defensive spoiling or tackling.

His strengths are his pace, evasion, and kicking (usually...). He's not being played to any of his strengths, and as a result has had a poor year, and gone significantly backwards from his debut season. He should never be near the defensive 50. We want him centre-forward where he can have impact by breaking zones and hitting the scoreboard.

He's a victim of our old plodding inside midfield. We've got the likes of Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Sparrow all in the centre, and so our young kids are not getting time in this area of the ground to develop. Our future centre bounce midfield should include Langford and Windsor, and we should be prioritising this now and moving on players like Oliver to develop the next generation and clear salary cap.

Windsor will be a star midfielder IMO. He showed flashes last year that he's the closest thing to a young Chris Judd that the league has seen in decades. Zero concerns with taking him at pick 7.

I also think the timing of the draft played a part - we had taken four key position players in 2021 and 22 (Disco, JVR, Jefferson and Adams)

You can argue that you always have to take best available but I think it would have been overkill to draft another KPP when we needed to start replenishing our midfield stocks

windsor should be the max holmes that we thought we were getting til the puddy tatts traded up ahead of us in the bowey + laurie double

similar #s in their respective second years, albeit that holmes was on the peripherary of a premiership team at the time...

FWIW Caleb Windsor is a wingman of the highest order - he can run, kick, win the ball, crash through tackles and, like Eddie, runs up and down the field to win possessions and assist in the backline and forward line.

Playing him in the backline reminds me of Robbie's time under RDB. How to ruin a champion.

Let's not ruin another talent.

Has straight line speed and breaks lines. His kicking is iffy at times and he reminds me a little of Jayden Hunt. Hoping he can improve his agility, decision making and his 5m acceleration.
