With the mane, agro, talent and strut he’s got a bit Dermott Brereton about him. Hated Dermott as an opposition player, would have loved him in Red and Blue (although that make me vomit a little).
Anyway, lots to like about the way the Kolt has started his career.

I too would have loved Brereton in the red and blue - if for no other reason than he would be denied the chance to gloat about winning 5 flags.

Balanced, strong, aggressive - what is there not to love about this gem from Esperance?  He sounds as if he loves the club and having JV7 as his early mentor has him on a very solid grounding.

Looking forward to many more exciting moments from the Kolt - can see him as a powerful mid in due course.

His set shot kicking looked confident and controlled.  Has he been watching JVR?

Rare match at the G for me. Seeing this young lad go to work in the flesh was my highlight. Topped off with a great post game interview on the ground and in the rooms. What a legend

Spot on - on all counts.

He's the love child of jackovich and Brett Lovett.

i had checked the tracker and was surprised how quick he is (note: average speed in attack is running when we have the ball).

And clearly a super hard worker, as evidenced by topping average speed in defence (note: running when the opponents have the ball - the best indicator of work rate and spread).

Love this chart, wish you could see more players. No Eagles is quite damning, shows where they're at... a lot of rumblings that the players have given up on Simmo and this would suggest it's true.

The first game I didn't have money on him as a goalkicker..

Money well spent, onya Dirk!

Sparrow goes ok both ways too. Definitely a hard worker, clearly playing a defensive role in the team.

Also Kolt has to get the rising star nom this week.

C’mon BM, get your spelling right. I’m surprised the DL coterie spelling club members haven’t picked this up…..

Right behind you walking out the door 🤩🤣

i presume it's just the hair and the low centre of gravity body shape, but kolt reminds me of buddha hocking

he has incredible enthusiasm for the contest - after one of the roo f50 marks he first pumped like crazy, and after high fiving someone else he turned around and went to high five...a meth coke player

It’s infectious isn’t it? Disco Turner is the same: loves the contest and loves kicking a goal.

Yep.

I have seen some posts calling for Sparrow to be dropped.

I think what his critics perhaps don't factor in is that he is given specific roles.

And far from goody playing favourites he's a best 22 lock because he does the jobs goody asks him to do.

Long lost brother of Dean Chiron

I love the way he goes in hard and never shirks a contest. Also love that he has a bit of mongrel in him. It’s going to be enjoyable for us supporters to watch him develop. The sky is the limit.

Fully agree. That entrée of '...a bit of mongrel...' will be very handy in each match that he plays (it would be great if it was contagious amongst teammates, as well). He has a variety of rapid-action skills - for example, his successful snap for a goal against Weagles, his line of contact with opponents and a developing ability to last-second tackle (neutralising those in his way - or those of a teammate). Like the lad; experience at that level is going to do freakish things for him as time rolls by. He shapes as a prescription addition to our team and it will be sheer delight to watch that ongoing development.

Binny, do you know what those roles are? If yes, could you please explain, as it’s not so obvious to me. Also, is he “succeeding” in those roles, and could you suggest someone else who might play those roles instead - ie why Sparrow? Ta.

Similes with the above for The Kolt are terrific; I particularly like the Dean Chiron comparison. Fingers crossed for the future as quite a few of us can see longer-term workhorse in his inauguration.

Windsor and Kolt, McVie and Bowser ... get Tracca back in when ready and we are away!

Is this a genuine question froggy?

I ask because it feels a bit like a gotcha, set up question.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
