The state of the two Collingwood twerps. Was that a cigarette or a lollipop hanging out the gob of one of them?

Yeh. Imagine.

Remind me who suggested he ignore the question/questions?

Why is it always so black and white with you hardcore fan-boys and girls?

There is a space that exists.... in betweeeeeenn the black and white.

I would have thought talking about a Whattsapp group is txt book way of staying in the space between black and white

I would like Max to focus on his kicking as he is ranked the worst kick in the comp. He is our leader and during that finals series he botched some shots at the goals.

Maybe instead of saying anything Max should have gone the full Marcel Marceau and let his actions do the talking. He could have mimed marking, kicking goals instead of points, given the goal umpires' goal signal so that it was all clear and ended with a triumphant mime of raising the cup.  Imagine the headlines "Max Marceau mimes Melbourne marvellous!"

Supporters: What are you going to do about the mess the club is in?!

Max: Tough love during the pre-season. Don’t worry, we have a plan.

Supporters: Talk is cheap. We don’t want to hear it.

Whether he mentioned 'tough love' or not, the better question is whether 'tough love' would work? Gone are the days when players would do everything a coach asked without question, even if that question was internalised and never stated out loud. That's the coaching style of yesteryear and was highly successful for John Kennedy, Denis Pagan, Mick Malthouse and others. Today's generation of players (and that generation generally) have different expectations as to how they should be treated. I suspect the handling of Clayton Oliver needs to be very different to that of Angus Brayshaw which would be different again from Steven May.

It's been said before, but a good coach understand the game; a great coach also understands his players.

Very true ET. You could replace the supporters with footy public in general inc media.

Am I missing something here ?
Max is the ONLY one that I have seen so far that has admitted that there are some issues that need addressing. Yes, he said that the culture is pretty good BUT there are some things that need to be looked at. That is a helluva lot more than Goodwin & Pert said. They just kept the line going about great culture & nothing to see here.
As for May: FFS, he was at a CLUB function, having had a few beers (by his own admission when he was interviewed at the time) and made a comment from the heart to HIS people (not the general football public), If not then, when the hell CAN he say something ?  He has now said "okay, probably could have chosen my words better" which should appease all the butt hurt [censored] out there. If not, WGAF ?
At the end of the day, the proof will be in the pudding, but slagging off players for actually answering questions ain't helping anyone.

I get the talk is cheap comment.

But if anyone at the club has earned the right to talk it's Max.

I think it's good that the club is saying we are disappointed and pulling out all the stops.

I suggest Max takes the boys out for a proper p*ss up in the off season. Let the hair down and not be so serious all the time. Forget tough love. Have some fun.

Well, not really. I put my money where my mouth is, by purchasing family memberships for both men's and women's programs. Of course, I'm happy to do so, but will also call out when the same old rhetoric gets trotted out.

Okay Max.

Less words and more actions thanks. We've been hearing too much words for the past two years.

How did you want him to respond Dazzle?  What would have satisfied you?

As herculean as he was against Collingwood, he was one of the key culprits in our loss to Carlton.

It's not that hard to kick a goal from as far out as the point post.

Yeah well I have plenty more to say but no more to add!

JUST SHUT THE FURG UP and let the footy do the talking, and you can start by BANNING the club song for any game but a Grand Final Win!

Saying ZILCH Because we are the laughing stock of the AFL at the moment and comments by Max like this just heap more pressure on an even more Beleaguered club!

What comment did Max make that you think would add more pressure.

Good idea. Can Goody come? Umm maybe not.

“Hi mate, if you are here to ask me about my tip for the Cup, happy to oblige- but I wouldn’t put my money on it. But if you are here to ask me football related questions, can I say that I am currently on holiday, and am enjoying my day at the races with a few close mates. I will happily answer these types of questions in a months time when I’m back at work. That ok for you? I’m sorry if it’s not, but that’s the way it’s gonna be”.

Personally I see the tough love line as a nice diffuser on the Goodwin interview. They carried on afterwards that goody didn’t reach out to smith (he interviewed the morning after returning back from overseas, understandable to still be p’d off)

happy max is personable enough to not ignore media. He wasn’t alone on the ledge for missed shots in finals, and I’m sure he’s open to receiving it back. Plenty of talk this preseason please dees. Professional words and advice to build each other up further. And action to show you’ve heard and respected it. Never forget Aaron vandenBergs contribution to the flag.

Maybe a simple polite decline to be interviewed? Who would have thought hey slart? Half surprised you couldn't think of that all up by yourself.

We've copped enough [censored] from the media this year so we owe them nothing. Player's aren't forced to give interviews and nor should we oblige too.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
