clarrypetracca135 1 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Is it a risk picking up Nate Caddy as that would be 3 talls in 3 years. though when you look at our 2021 flag talls, jackson has left, t mac is old, benny is past his prime and injury ridden and may only has a few years left? I reckon we should pick him up as he is versitile and with pick ten i reckon we pick up a guy who will start his career in the foward and then move to the mid( a bit like trac) Ps did anyone else realise caddy averages 2.7 goals a game 1 Quote

seventyfour 1,248 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 We need to develop a tall who can play at the other end of the ground in 2-4 years. Tommo is cooked, May doesn't have long to go, Petty might keep playing forward and Turner is no certainty to be a regular AFL player. 2 Quote

Could make an impact earlier in theory. 2 Quote

Jefferson has shown little to suggest he will be an AFL footballer IMO. 1 Quote

Both Petty and JVR are legitimate swingmen, but are our best 2 kpfs. Adams is still developing, but is a wait and see. Maybe long term Jefferson could be developed as a key back. There's plenty of instances of key forwards who have developed into key backs. 3 Quote

Otherwise, you make a good selling point about picking up Caddy. 1 Quote
george_on_the_outer 7,877 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) When coaching in junior competitions a couple of years ago, the Sandy Dragons asked for "likely" players to join their squad. But the recruiting staff asked us not to put forward kids who wouldn't grow much more, no matter how good they were in juniors. To stand out at the next level you had to be big. They already had a 14 year old ruck who was 210cm. They also pointed out Nate Fyfe was 190cm and Patrick Cripps 195cm....they said this was the size of mid-fielders in the future, as proved to be the case (3 Brownlows). So a player like Caddy is not a tall by the AFL standards these days. In fact they are all tall when you get to meet a group of them in real life. HBDee 376 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Stiff on Jefferson. Kid was only drafted 12 months ago. I'd be giving him at least another VFL season before making any further comment. 5 1 6 Quote

Thanks g_o_t_o, very insightful comments, we have a great nucleus of small - medium players and are likely to lose TMac, BBB (Petty) and Tomlinson at the end of 2024. We should go big in the draft or we could be caught short.!! No pun intended. Quote

Certainly Petty, and perhaps Smith but unaware of any others on our list. Quote

Colm 2,204 Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 The way our trade period is going makes it more important that our two first round selections are a strong chance to have an impact next year ala our 2019 crop. Caddy has good physical shape already but I’m not sure about him. Didn’t impress in the two or three games I watched him and will be a very similar size to JVR. We also have picked key forwards with our first pick for the past couple of years. It will all depend on who’s left at our second pick I suppose but I’d prefer us to take a quality mid and key back that have a good chance of making an impact this year. Curtain/ OSullivan and one of McKercher, Sanders, Wilson or Windsor. Quote

Colm 2,204 Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Just read on a big footy thread that Caddy has is now 193cm and growing. Might make him more appealing. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 We need pace and outside run with some skilled midfielders added. Everyone on here knows that I’m looking at Sanders and Darcy Wilson with our 1st two picks (unless we weave magic and get either of the pick 1,2,or3) They are skilled players with pace and smart decision makers. Thats our priority in my view. Quote

Firstly I think Disco is AFL ready end if story just needs the games. Secondly you didn’t mention Jed Adams who is a year away probably but recruited for a back KP role. Thirdly think Daniel Curtin from WA is about 195/6cm and the player who can also play on the ball who would be best if still at 6. Caddy if not a great back up unless we went for solely a back player only. I think a versatile option id best. Adams is that and JVR and Harry P are also changeable. Quote
Gator 18,054 Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Caddy is aggressive, which I like, but he's also a fumbler and two grabber, which I don't. For me he lacks class. I'll be shocked if we take him at 6. I wouldn't take him with 11. 2 Quote

It was a good move from Goody to play him fwd ( eventually) and I hope we resist the temptation to move him back. Im frustrated by our lack of finding another established fwd and also another defender to replace Petty down back. Has Tommo moved on? Quote
