Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club Jack. Get ready to be totally panned by people here on a weekly basis if you aren't hitting 100% of your kicks.

My Brother thinks he's a list clogger.

I don't share his perturbation.  But there will be others with a similar view.

Good bit of business by the Dees.

One of my co coaches out at Caulfield Grammar who's a St Kilda supporter says he needs to play forward pocket and he'll be very handy, but he claims he's got no idea in midfield or on the wing. I said, well, we've probably brought him in to play high half forward/wing and he said, he won't be much use then.

I'll reserve judgement. I think he'll be handy. He's no softer at it than Lingers, but a better kick.

I'd use him like Kozzy, a front of stoppage player at high half forward and deep forward, with some potential wing minutes.

It'd certainly be nice to have some more genuine competition for wing spots. Let's hope he can provide it.

"Triple J sucks now" is just one of those signs you're an adult. Congratulations you made it, now go mow the lawn and after that buy a good quality vacuum cleaner (no more of this cheapest vacuum cleaner in Kmart nonsense, get something that will last).

Edit: Sorry, wrong argument.

Good get. Our Jack quota has been too low the last few seasons.

Yeah he was  but  my question for you geniuses was which unfulfilled talent  did the Dee's make better?

Sorry, us geniuses’ mistake. We clearly didn’t see the word “unfulfilled” in your original question…

When has any player  thrived/ reached their potential after trading to the Dee's.. ?

Names please? Take your time

Probs because it was never there. 🙄

Interesting comment from Ralphy, that the Saints would pay half of Billings' salary, presumably for the 2 years remaining on his contract.

If the below quote is right we are only paying him about $250k a year for the next 2 years.

"Now, you might say why would a club take Jack Billings? He’s on $500,000 a year over the next couple of years, he’s got two years remaining on his deal."

Well, within 60 seconds this genius gave you Brian Wilson.

Couldn't make it at the dogs, who were woeful at the time.

The roos were better, but didn't set the world on fire and they were happy to ship him off to the lowly dees.

The very definition of an unfulfilled talent. Small body too.

And my oh my did the mighty dees make him better:

- won the Brownlow in 1982, his first season at the dees

- the only player to have won a Brownlow Medal at his third club

- At 20 years of age, he was the youngest brownlow winner since Bob Skilton in 1959

- Melbourne leading Goalkicker in 1985

- Victorian State Representative in 1982, 1983 and 1988

Meet your definition?

Or did you write 'recent' in invisible ink?

If that is true - then there really is no downside to this trade. If it works and his a contributor, that’s great. I don’t see it personally but people surprise you and there is no risk. We rarely use late picks these days.

Welcome aboard Jack Billings.

Let's focus on what he can do, rather than what he can not.

Im backing him in 100%.

Easily the most underrated player to go around for the Dees in the last 50 years.

What about Jack of all trades - Jake Lever.... Phil Egan wasn't bad either   - for his one game with us.

Billings reminds me of Jack Watts - talent to burn, smooth mover but sometimes lacking in intensity.

If he comes cheap then I’d take him.  He has many of the attributes that our list is lacking.

is he another public school boy MGS perhaps

We drafted Danny.  He was later recruited by Adelaide when they entered the competition.

edit:  Other players mentioned earlier were Alan Johnson and Allen Jakovich.  Again, these players were drafted, not traded from other clubs.

disclaimer:  In no way am I attempting to endorse @IRW's boneheaded post.

Scotch I believe. We have enough MGS boys already!

How can you define a 20yo as "unfulfilled talent", and use Wilson as a comparison with Billings? By your definition, every player needs to fulfill their potential by the time they're 20.

Billings has been in the system 10 years, and is the true definition of unfulfilled talent. A high draft pick who's shown a lot of promise over the years, but never reached the heights of expectation.

IRW's point is valid when it comes to our current football department. Dunstan, Grundy, Hunter and Schache were essentially unwanted by their previous club, and none of them have reached the heights at Melbourne as they did at their previous club.

Langdon, Hibberd and Melksham were not unwanted by their previous clubs. They sort a trade to us just like McAdam.

I hope that Billings can buck the trend of our recent acquisitions of unwanted players.

Had much worse seasons at the Dogs too like 2022.

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
