I’d be interested in picking up Jack Billings. Saints are pushing him out so hardly going to cost much in draft capital. I think if we spread his 2 year contract over 3  years he’s a good james jordan replacement. Think we would like him to push into the midfield and he has ability. We need some depth in the mid with dunstan and jordan and likely harmes off our list.

... or a break glass replacement for his ex team mate Dunstan?

Yeh depth, he is a high half fwd type, so would have too push out ANB and Spargo.

For the right price go for it, but not that super keen on it.  The interest in him so far shows that clubs will look at him as an end of trade period thing once they know the list spots left.

and?   or??

Id love Jack Billings. Seems like a good culture guy and can seriously play. Just needs some love. Can't see why we aren't pushing forward with this.

Do you think we have gone cold on this?

No I believe we warmed up because Collingwood went cold thinking they can now get Schultz.

He's a great ball user and he's played some really high level footy, just not for a few years. It's a genuine no brainer for mine but he's also not in the mould of the 'Melbourne contest and defence' players out list team seem to love.

We would have taken Billings over Kelly had we not traded our pick 2 in the 2013 draft.

Our recruiters really rated him.

Would not be surprised if we take a chance on him.

Was Jason Taylor at the club for the Kelly draft?  I thought it was still Barry Prendergast?

A slight change in mentality will better balance us I believe...

It was Taylor’s first year as recruiting manager afaik

Taylor.

He trained with us leading into that draft. I’d like Billings, he’s classy. Would make a really effective forward pocket player

If we are after Billings does that mean K.Brown will be rookied?

I'd rather have Billings than McAdam.

Truth is he butchers the ball in front of goal and has only kicked more than 20 goals in a season once in a 10 year career.

A bit like Harley Bennell for me - everyone is seduced by the ‘potential’ but the reality is this bloke has been around for a long time and done bugger all…

Billings would be a clear upgrade on all of Chandler, Spargo and Laurie. I think he fills a need more than McAdam as well. Given the likely cost is probably only a 2023 or 2024 third round, I think it is worth taking the chance.

Laurie maybe, Spargo and Chandler, no way

I'm an avid receiver of trade talk but don't have much in the way of post-worthy views.

However, Billings was, for me, one of those names I 'knew' but had no idea about their football. So, to Mr Google, and this popped up.

Pretty 'padded' but also a very deep dive. Tough to be singled out like this, and not helpful to his career prospects, I think.

I have a Saints mate that recons Saints are willing to pay up to half his contract if it means the get a Second rounder for him.

I was against billings but warming to the idea.

Also no idea how accurate the salary thing is.

If they are willing to pay half his contract well come on down to Demonland i say.

Is this still a thing or have our interest dried up.

To me this has a last minute ‘oh yeah we’ll take him feel’ like lachie hunter last year

It depends if we go for Haynes.

Is that actually legit? Can't find anything that confirms so?

Nothing yet but there is still a week to go in trading.

Trade Radio stated still a club interested but not named.

Line put through Collingwood, Carlton and dogs.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's us for pick 42.

Edit: dogs, not dons

Seems it is (if 'our' = DL, at least...)

Time for a reminder of this?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
