We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Some really good comments in this thread - at least we've mostly got past people assuming what ex-players are known for as players is all they can coach.  I've got no idea if Stafford can coach - but those potting him because he was a ruckman is completely unfair imo.

I think our forwardline is very difficult to coach - partly because we are a defensively minded team and partly because that area of the ground we have had less talent / stars than the other parts of the ground.  The forward line can function a lot better with the key personnel on the park and better ball movement from the team as a whole.

So -  I would love to see someone come in that can help with our ball movement - ideally without it costing us too much on turnover - but that's a balance we're going to need to find.  Do we have the kicking skills that the pies and GWS have in their midfields to do it?  Probably not - but if our prime movers are not predominantly kicking from congestion then maybe our skills are better than what it seems (I suspect this is the case).

Would love to get someone like Don Pyke for this - as he has a proven record with Adelaide and Sydney at turning this around.  But if he's going to be the WCE CEO then we'll have to look elsewhere.

In terms of freshening up the coaching team, would be good to get someone experienced - Pyke / McQualter / Dew etc and potentially someone who's recently out of the game - this should freshen things up for the players.  Think of Geelong post 2021 - replacing all the assistants and looking like they were over the hill.. a flag the next year!  I've loved the insights from Phil Davis on Whatley in recent weeks but suspect he's going down more the administration side of things.

Interesting comments from Tom Morris regarding senior players acknowledging they’d like to see some fresh voices around Goodwin:

Players sound like they're bored of Goodwin and the same game plan that he's been running two years straight and are simply wanting fresh voices. We've ran with this coaching structure since the end of 2020.

Big off season coming up for Goody. If he doesn't make changes he could easily lose the players

Bold thing to say about a guy who has taken the team to a flag and 3 consecutive top 4 finishes.

We have some very delusional people in our supporter group.   They think Goody is coaching the Harlem globe trotters

Watching GWS / Pies / Lions etc I too wish we played with a bit more dare.

However, I think your comment here is a bit of a stretch and unfair to say they're bored of Goodwin.  Firstly because this is all hearsay coming from Tom Morris.  Secondly because the comments were about the assistant coaches moreso than Goody.

Maybe, although in footy terms, Hannibal/PD/Gator are pretty much always spot on IMO.

Perhaps, but his ego never allowed him to have a meaningful discussion without descent into personal jibes or irrelevant musings into another poster proclivities. So he came and went like the tide.

Same.  At least during the first 10 minutes or so at the start of the game,  after half time and/or each quarter.

Ensuring the shape is as per what you train and game is on your terms across each area of the field before coming down as the main voice / guide with the players at ground level.

Need to see what the oppo is bringing with match ups, shape & transitional / stoppage methods/structure as well.

I just think you're potentially missing too much from the get go and spending the entire match down at ground level.

Ultimately you are answerable if the oppo have changed their expected modus operandi or a few key match ups / shape of their zone / extra number/s at contest etc and for whatever reason those in the box either aren't seeing it, or even if they are, maybe they're not as concerned about the effect (less experienced / diff way of seeing the game) than you as the more experienced head coach might be.

Norm Smith did ok coaching from the bench (in his gabardine overcoat) 🤗❤️💙

Please no.  I detest him [Hird] on so many levels (just my opinion, I’m sure there are plenty others that would think differently).

Wodja - just warning you - you are not alone 🤗

Seriously I would seriously consider not following the club I have loved for 70 odd years.

Fagan has never played AFL and is old enough to be the grandfather of some of the players he coaches.
Should he not coach either?

Dew was a superstar back in the day. He was laughed at for being overweight at Hawthorn… until he won them a flag off his own boot.
A coach is not there to lead in the running. He is there to teach, and come up with tactics. His physical shape is totally irrelevant.

Disagree.

More than that I would say it contributed to his failure as a senior coach at the elite level.

No self-discipline. No surprise he failed to get the best or anywhere near the best out of that group.

Bit of fresh blood needed on the field with some leg speed & skills skills (see Coleman tonight!).

The dare will come if the boys can see the light and start playing that way, knowing it will often be rewarded.

New mid & forward line coaches that have a slightly more attacking bias /  background.

Having said that, Goodwin will need to go away and review / rethink some aspects of our game and take the shackles off a little imv.

Need some run & carry / overlap into the team which might come with the above.

If Goodwin says "steady as she goes" with minimal changes then we may well be back here saying the same or similar things after next season with aspects of the game, and a few more clubs, possibly going past us.

There is an acknowledgment from senior Melbourne players…

What a vague statement.

Which players? Names please.

To whom was this acknowledged?

What exactly did these senior Melbourne players say? Direct quotes please.

🙄

I thought Ratten was pretty much done with footy now after leaving the assistant role with North?

Impression i had was he didn't want to comtinue in any sort of significant role in general and rs rhad had enough.

Or did i miss something?

No but some others either miss the memo or just contribute their wishes ( ignoring or dreaming ) for  the future.

Its a situation that the Club should embrace and leave no one out of its deliberations.

Firstly we should thank Greg Stafford for his role in the last few years as he is after all a premiership Coach. There are a few dynamics with our mid forward connection and it hasn't been easy but no one can really say he has Solved any of the problems. Needs a more team approach and Goody must get involved as he has overseen and created a far too defensive mindset.

Some of the better candidates IMO are Dew (but not midfield) McQualter, Pyke, Leppitsch, Enright, Rohan Smith, Stephen King and Cam Bruce. More left field are Selwood and Cotchin to bring youth and success for reinforcement to the table. There are more no doubt in an ever widening net .

I would discount are Ratten but be open to most or all possibilities for our forward  line especially.

BACK TO BASE CAMP by Meggs

Congratulations to the Brisbane Lions.   Undefeated in all 6 matches against the top teams (North Melbourne, Adelaide, Geelong, and Melbourne). They are worthy winners of the 2023 AFLW premiership.   Our ambition for a Season 8 back-to-back premiership was derailed.   In round 6 Adelaide spilled the beans on the template to outplay us. From there news spread fast to other top teams who applied similar intense physical pressure at the source which crushed our gameplan to execute vi

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE by Meggs

It was a hot afternoon at IKON where the ferocious Cats came to play, had read the manual on how to beat us and the Demons were unable to match them for the first three quarters.     With physical pressure, they took the game on with relative ease and though our resistance seemed better than the previous two weeks it was still not good enough.     Within the opening minute, Kate Hore marks within range, but her shot was a miss-kick, like a fat iron, and it kinda set a flat tone f

    TURNAROUND by Meggs

Following successive comprehensive defeats by fellow Top Four heavyweights the Demons play down a division this Sunday against the highly promising Cats.     Strangely, no games against the Cats for five seasons and now we play them twice in one season.     With the blueprint on how to defeat the Dees available on the dark web the real question is, will we crumble again under the finals pressure cooker or will we rediscover our #DemonSpirit and execute a turnaround?   Mak

THE SECRET IS OUT by Meggs

We were expecting that after last week’s comprehensive defeat by Brisbane, our coach Mick Stinear would have his charges coming out breathing finals fire. Instead, it was North who had the aggression, the numbers, who blocked our scoring avenues and rendered us impotent, unable to match the Kangas during any phase of the match.   Darren Crocker, the North coach, later highlighted that how to beat Melbourne is no secret following recent losses to Adelaide and Brisbane and now North.
